Hilary in August, 2003

Hilary later in 2004 - and larger?

Hilary Duff is growing up (and out) right before our eyes. The
16-year-old starlet, who is busy filming The Perfect Man with Heather
Locklear in Toronto, appears to have gained a few extra pounds. "In
the first picture, she's probably around 115 to 118 pounds,"
speculates Dr. Howard Shapiro, a New York City weight-loss specialist
who has never treated Duff. "Now she looks closer to 130 to 140
pounds. That's a significant gain for her." But her publicist insists
there isn't one extra ounce of her to love. "Hilary has not gained any
weight and her clothing size has not changed," her rep tells Star.
"Perhaps the scarf she has around her middle and the angle of the
photo [in Star magazine] give the illusion of a weight gain, but
that's not the case." You decide!

no kidding. we were watching MuchMusic Video Awards
a week or so ago, and when Hilary came on there was
much screaming in my household..."She's FAT!!!. Hilary
is FAT!!!" not a pretty sight. wouldn't hurt her to work out
a bit in the gym. she should try to keep her health. not
throw it away.

This kind of "news" is just wrong. The girl is only 16. She's a child for
Pete's sake and they're mocking her. These sickos were so happy to learn
about that Olsen girl's anorexia, and now they're salivating over Duff. Good
job, entertainment reporters. Give her a complex about her appearance and
you'll have another very sick young victim on your hands.

Shame on the media for even reporting this. She seems "normal" by all
accounts and unlike the Olsen twins, she doesn't appear to be suffering from
anorexia.

To put that kind of pressure on a 16 year old is criminal and they should be
ashamed of themeselves

She's looking pretty plump. Must be the road food from touring. You'd think
her people would provide her a nutritionist and a trainer. Her arms and
sleeveless tops do not mix.

If by "normal" , you mean 20 pounds over ideal weight, then I agree. As for
the "pressure" aspect----Hilary wants to be in the public eye, and being
"cute" is part of her gimmick. Therefore, her appearance is fair game, 16 or
not. Everybody likes to play the anorexia card, but what's wrong with a
healthy, lean physique? Kids NEED a role model who advocates healthy eating
and exercise. I used to think it was Britney, but that hasn't seemed to be
the case. It's not Christina, and now it's obviously not Hilary. Maybe Mandy
Moore?

People like you are part of the problem. Do you always look to
celebrities to be role models? Just because a person is overpaid and
in the public eye does not mean they qualify to be a role model. In
fact, a lot of celebrities are too fucked up to be anything other than
a cautionary tale.

If you want a celebrity role model who advocates a healthy lean
physique, and comes from humble beginnings to boot, try the Williams
Sisters. They've got fantastic healthy bodies and have worked their
asses off to get to where they are today.

The Williams sisters do have incredibly healthy physiques, but most of us,
teens included, don't have the time to spend exercising as much as they do.
Don't get me wrong -- I like them as role models in the beauty department.
It just is good to remember that not everyone has the time to do that much
work.

Oh I know. But I was just trying to show the poster that there are
other "role models" out there besides teenybopper pop singers.

Exactly. Just more proof that if you're a woman in the public eye,
you can't win: if you do what you need to in order to fit "beauty"
ideals, you're ridiculed for your eating disorder, and if you don't,
and in consequence gain some weight, you're slammed for that as well.
It's like there's about a 10-pound window of "acceptable" weight for
women, and if you go the slightest bit above or below that, everyone
feels free to gangpile on and scream abuse at you.

KIDS look up to celebrities, especially teen girls. It's a FACT. The point
remains, if someone wants to reap the benefits of being a celebrity they
must take the good with the bad. Appearance is fair game, no matter her age.
If she doesn't like it, then she can always drop out of the public eye.

Oh bull. If Hilary Duff maintained a healthy diet and exercise program she
wouldn't be anorexic nor would she be fat.

With the Mary Kate Olson being on the news everywhere for anorexia
right now, Star should never have published this.

Saw her "on the street" with gal-pal Trachtenberg. Hills looked
ghastly; hideous makeup and crapped-out brassy hair, never mind her
pudge.

Cute no more.

Face it Hills. YOU ARE A PUDGER!

And with your thoughtless makeup (through which the Olsen Thins have
suffered) and wrecked hair, WTF are you doing?

Get a grip kid; we NOTICE, and don't like you, "however you look"!
Get a grip! (Or tip over into the organic bin of recyclables.)

I disagree. While I do not promote anorexia or starvation, a woman who
is a "movie star" (young or old) is essentially required, I believe,
to look slender or their career will not last long. Othewise, hey, we
could ALL be movie stars.

The problem with both Hilarry and the Olsen twins in terms of being
"movie stars" are that they are very short, whoch does nt photograph
well if you have gained even a little weight.

I believe Hillary looks more than slightly overweight. She looks like
she needs to lose about 20 pounds, which, like anorexia, is not a
healthy lifestyle to promote to kids.

I think needing to lose 20 pounds does not endanger your life as much as
being anorexic does -- not by a long shot and especially not at 16!

Sure there are. There are also actresses, which Hilary Duff is primarily.
Teenaged girls don't give a hang about female athletes unless they play the
same sport. All teenaged girls watch tv, go to movies, or buy CDs, though.
Hey, I'd love it if all girls looked to people like Mia Hamm or Niki
Gudex(downhill mountain bike racer) but it's not realistic. But I've strayed
from the point. Hilary Duff has very little talent, other than being cute.
Therefore, her job is dependent on her being cute. Gaining 20 pounds
jeopardizes her cuteness, so it's fair game. I prefer Lindsay Lohan, anyway,
and she's neither anorexic or chubby. LOL

The sad part is, 130 lb is not 20 lb. overweight for her size. It's
just right, even for a woman with a thin frame. Here we are picking on
somebody basically because she isn't underweight.

Anyway, she looks fine.

Serena lost to a 17-year-old Russian girl at Wimbledon today. The
commentators were driving me crazy, saying how Serena was cracking
under the pressure at how good her opponent was, that it was as if she
was dealing with a "younger version of herself." How old is Serena
Williams?? 22-23? Criminy. If it's not your weight, it's your
friggin' age.

Kathy Bates is a character actor, not a leading lady wannabe.

Sheely Winters' career ook a nose dive when she gained weight. (even
counting the Poseidon Adventure).

I'm not basically disputing what you say, just pointing out that movie
stars by definition of their jobs have always had to adhere to
standards that we mere mortals do not have to adhere to. That is why
I understand when actresses get cosmetic surgery. It's almost a
requirement of their job - one just hopes they get a good surgeon and
don't go overboard.
