How about we start list of celebrities who we think are too thin. We should
also list why we think they're too thin (eating disorder, drug problems). This
list should *not* include any models because it goes without saying that almost
every famous model can be considered too thin, and it's basically their job to
be thinner than what's considered healthy.

Here's my list:

Helen Hunt -- probably has an eating disorder

Courteney Cox-- she looks like she's aneroxic

Fiona Apple -- definitely has that heroin junkie look

Celine Dion -- looks like she has aneroxia

Kathie Lee Gifford --is looking particularly bony these days. It's obvious her
recent image change (dying her hair blond, drastic weight loss) is an insecure
reaction to Frank's infedility.

Tea Leoni -- probably has an eating disorder, maybe on drugs too

Michael Jackson -- probably has aneroxia

Ally Sheedy -- I saw a recent interview with her and she looked particuarly
bony. She probably hasn't overcome her eating disorder and may be on drugs
again.

Sarah Michelle Gellar -- there are rumors she has aneroxia

Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) -- obvious drug problem

Actually, Courtney to me looks like she is just naturally very thin.

I'll add Jean Smart - probably eating disorder. She was a healthy weight on
Designing Women but saw her on Politically Incorrect and she looked waaaaay too
thin.

Hi!

If Celine has anorexia than her father (75) and her brother Jacques had
it too for all of their lives... For Celine, it is a genetic and
metabolism thing here; although before she started her english and
international carreer she was a little heavier. I think that since she
started her *second* carreer she just has been working way too hard with
a very hectic schedule and that's why she could not gain weight.

Look at marathon runners; they are not anorexic and they are so thin.

Then she's naturally VERY thin. I heard a wardrobe mistress (on some talk
show) say that of the three women on Friends, two wore size 2 and one wore size
0. (I didn't even know they made a size 0. Is that possible???)

The names on your list with the exception of Helen Hunt have always been
skinny...I think Hunt's the only one who has undergone a dramatic weight-loss
in recent years. Check out the earlier episodes of "Mad About You" when she
actually had some curves and compare it to the post-modern heroin-chic Helen
Hunt. She also looks constantly angry, her face twisted into a permanent
scowl it seems....

Bobcat Goldthwait--my god he looks like he's in the final stages of the

Billy Bob Thornton sup[posedly lost weight for a movie role. He liked his new
look so much he decided to keep the weight off.

No, I have to to disagree. Kathie Lee Gifford is now the thinnest that she's
ever been. She's bony now and if you remember her from her early days on the
show with Regis, she had a much fuller face and curves, like Helen Hunt used
to.

How about Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal)? My God, the woman looks like a
skeleton. Scary!

BTW I've always thought Courtney Cox looked waaaaay too skinny. I think this
came up before in one of the infamous "Implants?" debates. While many of you
believe that Courtney was always "naturally skinny" (though she didn't appear
to be especially skinny in that old Springsteen video) just think of the irony
in the fact that she plays a "former fattie" on "Friends." Ever see the
flasback episode?

Gee, and now her character has managed to lose every ounce of fat tissue on her
body (except for that in her breasts of course!) If she isn't anorexic in real
life, she plays one on TV!

Yeah but they eat. Celine is naturally thin but she was never this
emaciated. her head looks too big for her body and you can see all her
bones. If it's a hectic schedule then why doesn't, every female singer look
like that?

I think not. Just the other day, I watched Bruce Springfield's

*skinny* as she is today) in that video.

I don't think you can just label someone's weight or them being thin on a
disorder or heroin. I think that's crazy. Some of these people have to work
out to keep their figures, even as actors. And yes you can be naturally thin
and still be health. Look at Leonardo he's thin as can be when he was in was in
his very early 20s and was perfectly healthy..i don't about right now.
You can make these assumptions they have anorexia or are using drugs but you
know you're wrong.

Several people have pointed out Courtney Cox as being too thin. Others
have written that she looks to be naturally extremely thin. All I know
is that when you see pictures of her when she was a semi regular on
FAMLY TIES she weighed more. I remember during the first year of
FRIENDS cast members would say in interviews that they were always
trying to get her to eat more. Cox's reply was she didn't eat a lot and
often she was so busy she would forget to eat.

Hi Catty, I think, I have to disagree with that. On the last pictures, that I

I was watching some reruns of MAY and I thought Helen Hunt looked better
with her short bob haircut than she does with longer hair.

I think the reason she looks better in those old reruns is not her
haircut but the fact that her face doesn't appear as thin as it does
now. Of course, her longer haircut may be what makes her face look
thinner. Also, her old haircut had bangs and masked her Queen Victoria
style hairline.

Funny, i would have agreed with you before I read interveiws with Cox where
she seemed fixated with getting down a dress size (from 4 to 2) which is
where she said she felt the best. Also she chain smokes, a big indication of
a non-eating starlette.

How about Geraldo's wife Cici? The woman looks so sharp and angular she could
cut a roast. Wonder of her fertility problems were related to a cessation of
menstruation. Really, you can count her ribs when she wears an open necked
shirt.

Anne Coulter (she appears regularly on Politically Incorrect and is one of the
blond hired dogs of the right wing) She lives up the street from me and folks
stare at her not because they recognize her but because she obviously has some
horrible disorder. Her bones practically clank as she walks down the street.
Another weirdness, she is always mumbling to herself rather aggressively.

For the record, I'd guess she's well under 100 lbs and needs some immeadiate
attention, she's very creepy.

But you didn´t see her at the Oscars or in Palmetto?? She looked curvier and
heavier than ever. In fact, in one of the movie groups some of the guys said
that Palmetto is totally unbelievable, because nobody would betray Gina
Gershon with a fat girl like Shue. And in the post Oscar shows her skin tight
dress was named as one of the worst fashion disasters. I thought she was one
of the sexiest women at the oscars and that is usually the best indication
that someone is too heavy by Hollywood standards.

I would add Tori Spelling to the list. First you have to survive the look of
her face and then she tortures you with her body.

Hi all !
I haven't forgotten the name of the newgroup (!) but one thing I feel I
must bring up - certain chronic health conditions result in drastic weight
loss or naturally low bodyweight. We know nothing about other health
issues that these individuals may be dealing with ...

People who know me know I sometimes dump 25 lbs. FAST because I have a
chronic gastrointestinal illness, not anorexia. It's hell being asked to
your face, "Do you have anorexia? or having rumors floated to that effect
when you're fighting something else entirely. I must admit in my younger
snottier days, I simply replied, "No, I have cancer." (A lie, but it made
me feel better than floating the name of a disease than not many people
have heard of, and accomplished the same thing). Questioning assumptions
is always healthy.

These days Madonna is looking horribly thin. I caught that new video of
hers, and she not only look incredibly thin, she looks dreadful, sick. I
think that she put on weight after the baby, and was so determined to get
back to "normal" in a short period of time so she must have done something
drastic. I get the feeling she took drugs or hormones or something.

He, Rebecca, and that says what ? At that point of time when the movie was

Hollywood is weird like that. I might notice someone and think that
they are cute and then they undergo a weight reduction program and are
way too thin IMHO. I wish I could think of someone ...
BH90210 is a good example of thin women. Tiffani-Amber Thiessen,
who plays Valarie, is considered by some as fat, yet I think she looks
fine. Well she does look big compared to say Jenni Garth and fat compared
to Tori Spelling, but TAT is probably a little thin in the "Real World."
This thin obsession is what Hollyweird loves and so it mass produces
these ultra-thin actresses' and we are all lead to believe that this is the
ideal. I use to believe this, I thought that Elle had a great body until
I meet her in real life and all I could think was sickly thin she looked.
She might take a great photo, but in RL she isn't very impressive.
Curves are out :( They all seem to be big breasted with bony ribs
showing, yuck! Some said that Helen Hunt is approaching the heroin-chic
look and since I am watching "Mad About You" on reruns, I would agree.
First season she looks fine, the latest she looks thin and not like
anyone I know who just had a baby. Yeah, yeah it isn't real, but she looks
more like Kate Moss than a mother.
Kelly Lynch, Laura Dern, Courtney Cox, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer
Aniston are all way too thin. Aniston is one to watch, she lost a bit of
weight as Friends progressed and has said that she had to lose weight to
get parts. Bah Hollyweird is just too screwed up IMHO.

Several months ago there were numerous threads regarding Kate Winslet, and
whether or not she was too fat in "Titanic". Well, I recently made my first
trip to Planet Hollywood here in Chicago, and they have one of her costumes
from the film on display. It is beautifully made, and if it's a size 8, I'd be
surprised. It looked closer to a six to me.

Across the aisle was the dress Demi Moore wore in "Indecent Proposal", and I
was shocked at how cheesy it looked. The fabric looked really cheap, and the
construction was shoddy at best. My guess would be it was a 10. Of course,
there would be no reason to invest a lot of money in a costume, but I was
really surprised.

Courtney is not naturally thin. If you ever saw her on Family Ties, she

She's scary, and once I saw a picture of her as a teenager and she was actally
quite pudgy, a bit beyond "healthy" but not much, so you know she's killing

Yes, most good runners are extremely thin. With all the training
mileage, you cannot help but being very, very thin. But with some time
off, most runners can put back on a healthy amount of weight. If the
Hollywood types would actually EXERCISE instead of hurling and taking
drugs, they might actually look good, and be healthy.

Some one mentioned Tea Leoni and the heroin junkie look. I

I am wondering if there isn't starting to be some backlash towards the
ultra skinny look, in the real world at least.

I find an awful lot of women who don't like it forced on them and middle
aged guys I know are starting to say things like "that chick is too
skinny!"

If you want to see something interesting check out tv shows from the
1970's. By today's standards most of those women are chunky and flat
chested.

Marilu Henner is a great example of a chick who looked good at a normal
weight but now is on that vegetarian diet and has gotten so thin she
looks odd, too thin a face which makes her teeth look like they are way
too big for her mouth.

When she wears a tight top, it looks like she's going to fall forward on to her
face. I've only been watching Days for three years. When they've shown
flashbacks of Hope over ten years ago, I'm shocked. You can't even recognize
her. And she looked so much better then. And her boobs actualy looked good,
probably because they were not store-bought.

I know this thread has probably been going on forever but just joined and
gotta add my two cents. ;-) I tried reading as many answers on the thread as
I could and agree with so many of ya! I have five celebs that come to mind
immediately before reading anyone else's opinions and they are 1) Pamela
Lee--when she appeared on Leno about a week or so ago even my husband said
she was too skinny. Her collarbone was sticking out and her cheekbones are so
hollow now. Ick. 2) Vanna White. When I see this woman I catch myself saying
out loud "Feed her please!!!. She is very unattractive. 3)Kathie Lee Gifford.
I can't believe this woman starves herself to look good for a plastic faced
old man lying cheat. She thinks she looks good, I think she looks awful. 4)
Jesse on MTV. Dont know if he would be considered a "celebrity" since he is a
new vj on there but besides being totally annoying the boy needs some serious
food and 5) the favorite mention: Courtney Cox. I dont think any celebrity
[not even Calista Flockheart] can beat her in the skinny department. I too
have seen photos of her from even the first season of "Friends" and she had
more weight then. I remember when people were ranting about Teri Hatcher
too--is she still super thin? In any case, it doesn't matter what we all
think. These women [and some men] will continue to starve themselves to
please the Powers That Be. Sad.

And a few threads up, people are calling the not skinny but hardly obese
Monica Lewinsky "chubby" and "fat". (Actually I must admit with some guilt
that I repeated such a comment in this newsgroup.) We decry the obsession
that makes women lose all sense of the concept of "too thin" yet the scorn
for those who aren't thin at all is withering on the part of many. I'm not
talking about Gilbert Grape's mother. (Although watching the film and
seeing her humiliation at her condition, which came about from an
emotional upset, would make any compassionate person think twice about
heaping scorn so casually on anyone for their weight. People prefer to
assumethat obeseness is some negative personality trait like laziness
rather than just psychologically being overwhelmed and unable to control
it no matter how hard one tries. That makes it easier to justify their
ridicule. The biggest scum, IMHO, are those who think that they are
helping the object of their scorn by inflicting what is actually
humiliation.)
But Monica Lewinsky is a healthy looking young woman who is very
attractive except for the fact that she isn't a size 6 (or 8, but i bet
she's a 12 which is a normal size except for models and actresses). It's
this casual scorn we heap on those who fail to be thin that keeps women
dieting themselves into a too thin state. Sometimes dieting themselves
into a premature grave. The pressure to be attractive is keenly felt by
everyone, but especially by women. We are constantly given the message
that attractiveness is far more a huge part of what we are worth in life
than it is for a man. And keeping the weight down to thin is perceived as
an important part of that. And while it isn't true that a woman won't find
love (or even be as successful in her career) while a thinner one will,
the message that constantly gets drummed into your brain is that nothing
you do is enough if you aren't thin too if you're a woman. That's the
message I've been picking up on here and everywhere else. And that sucks.
Of course it affects men too. Today I was in a shop and the man who
runs it started telling me how Joan Rivers, by making fun of her
appearance, made him feel it was all right for him to leave the house. He
was a little overweight (say 40 pounds on a tallish frame) but I was
surprised that he would think about it. I hadn't noticed or thought about
it before he apologetically called attention to it. And it sucks that he
thought that way. (But ironic, for readers of ASG, that Joan Rivers made
him feel that it was okay, with her own self-deprecating humor.)

Right before she died isn't when she looked her worse though. There was one
point where she looked like a cadaver -- you could almost count the teeth in
her head through the sunken skin on her face. I believe she had made some
small triumph over her problem and was actually gaining back some weight when
her heart gave out. But I agree about the actresses on TV. I wonder how many
of them are shortening their lives by not providing their bodies with
sufficient nutrition.

When she dropped her clothes in the movie, she looked gorgeous. I was so
jealous of her and that body. When I heard people calling her fat, I flipped.
If people seriously call Kate Winslett fat, this society has really fucked up
peoples' minds. It's rediculous. And I'm a size 6-8, and I used to weigh
more, so I know how if feels to be labled "chunky" or "fat." Looking at

I agree totally!!! Flockhart is, well, blah, yucky, scrawny....Winslett is
curvy, womanly, gorgeous! Beauty and sexiness comes in all sizes and skinny as

Tanning totally ruins one's skin and it greatly increases the rate at

And would applying pasta directly to parts of her body really help? I would
think that noodles stuck to her bony clavicles wouldn't be all that attractive.

I think television actresses, and film actresses are under immense pressure to
conform to some unrealistic stereotype. Oddly enough, though, while I think
Kristen looks ridiculous at best and ill at worst, the producers seem to have
no problem at all with the actress who portrays Sammie Brady (sorry, don't
remember her name), who is quite plump in comparison to Kristen, and is
featured in a prominent storyline and even had a wild love scene in a closet
recently (lol!). When I see actresses like her and Kate Winslet, I begin
thinking that Hollywood is finally getting a clue, but then again, I have heard
that Kate is on some sick diet of just brussel sprouts in order to lose weight
for a nude scene in one film, and that Arnold Schwarzenegger had the NERVE to
demand that she lose 10 pounds to play his wife in another film. The more
things change, the more they stay the same.

Look at his own wife. He must like VERY thin women.

Yeah, but no one goes on and on about how beautiful she is supposed to be on
the show....there is always an undercurrent that she's not good enough ( and
I'm not referring to her morals... she is a villainess) for the men she's
banging to REALLY be in love with her...... I don't think she's get the role of
the sweet, sexy heroine like the Hope Brady character in a zillion years simply
because of her weight... I honestly watch the show, maybe 1 time a month....and
I never look at "Hope" without thinking "WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT GORGEOUS GIRL!
"She is positively skeletal....

Alison Sweeny, who plays Sami Brady is a little Vixen. Personaly, I think
she's gorgeous. She has a sweet face, and beautiful long blond hair. And she
actualy looks healthy. She's a horse rider, and I believe she's into kick
boxing, so it isn't as if she's not active. A lot of Days fans call her
"Spami", which is one of the more polite words they call her.

Another new character, named Nancy, is also very "plump" and she is also a
villainess. I wonder if Days is trying to send a message about non-thin
people.
