Last night was one intense study into the semantics of the warped and
psychotic,

Andy Dick, fresh out of re-hab ("I have 34 days, clean and sober") sporting a
blond mop and a pearl choker, embarassed himself once more - this time in front
of 5 million people.

After providing Dave with some background on the fateful night of DUI and
crashing into a tree on a deserted CA highway "Drinky, drinky, drivey, drivey,
crashey, crashey" - is how A.Dick pitifully put that night's events, he then
reached into his pants pocket, brought out shearing instruments and proceeded
to cut off dollops of his blond bird nest.

Dave got all hot and bothered about the mess, the audience was hemming and
hawing (poor Paul - he was speechless) - finally the interview was mercifully
cut short.

Bad interview, good freak show.

I didn't see it, but how sad.

I never cared for Andy Dick... I could sit through him on News Radio..
that is about it.

He needs to drop out of sight for a while and THINK before he acts or
opens his mouth on TV appearances.

He is very confused and needs much more help.

Poor guy, he really was loosing it, but Letterman didn't help! Andy
probably was trying to play into Dave's "let's get the interviewee to
cut off his beard or mustache" game. Problems was that Dave doesn't
like things he isn't in control, and this was out of his control.
Andy does seem "certifiable" these days!

I love Andy Dick. I mean, I don't want him to kill himself, but I do hope
he stays a freak. Very Crispen Glover, Very Farrah. His haircut reminds me of
Yoko Ono's cutaway piece or Andy Warhol's film "haircut". Andy Dick is just too
hip for the room.
And I love Letterman! Nothing this glamourous and bizarre ever happens on
Leno.

This is why I rarely watch the late night interview shows. Very little
spontaneity. I loved a documentary about Jack Paar about a year ago. He
actually had conversations with guests and they weren't on his show strictly
to plug their latest projects. Oscare Levant was great. And he had no
projects to plug since in was slowly dying.

Andy D does a lot of stream of barely conscious stuff. As an artist, he
has a desire to push his borders. Think Andy Kaufman.
We like our outrageous comedians, but they scare us a little too.

Oscar (manic depression) was always brilliant on the show as was Alexander
King (fighting drug addiction). There was never any knowing where the show
was going when they were on. Sad that there are no clips. This was off the
planet humor at it's wittiest. Perhaps that's what is missing with most of
the guests on the late night circuit. No wit.

I don't know about the cute part, but he was extremely nervous on
Letterman and seemed really disappointed that Dave didn't get his
joke! It is funny seeing Letterman when he doesn't control things.
He reacted to Andy much like he did to Crispen Glover. FREAK! FREAK!

Except that Andy K had comedic talent not to mention impeccable timing.

In this case A.Dick is drawing strongly on his perverseness and the pathos
factor. He's never been remotely funny imho. Its actually rather painful to
watch.

See also Pee Wee Herman and Gilbert Gottfried. Rob Schneider seems to fall into
that category of as well.

Do you watch Letterman on a regular basis over the years? He likes
talking people into cutting off their facial hair on the show. It was
a running joke over the years. Andy probably was playing into this
joke, but without prior approval from David.

Yes, he was trying very HARD to get Dave's approval, but David didn't
help him one bit! Dave kept pestering him about being in rehab
before. Yes he is very sad, but there was a logical sense to what he
did considering the hair cutting was a previous running joke. Sure he
didn't pull the joke off well, but it wasn't totally coming from way
out in far far north field!

Weird -- I was going through some old books in my mom's basement and found a
stash of books by Jack Douglas! I remember reading them in the late 60's and
thinking they were the funniest thing ever. I'm setting aside this weekend to
re-read "The Neighbord Are Scaring My Wolf," "My Brother Was an Only Child,"
and "Shut Up and Eat Your Snowshoes."

I briefly lived with Andy Dick in the summer of 97. He is a rare talent and most
people don't understand or like his off-colored humor, of this he is aware. He comes
from a very unstable family situation and in light of more recent events, he's
allowed to be acting a bit kooky ( I tell ya though, this is very Andy)

I like Andy Dick alot - always have. A very good friend of mine lived with
Andy and Lina for awhile. He's not conventional by any means, but he's funny
as hell and extremely kind hearted. I hope he gets the help he needs.
