On the AOL music message boards, people have been posting about rumors that
Stevie Nicks is dating Chris Isaak. Anyone heard anymore about this?

nbc.com has a story about Chris dating actress Bai Ling. This is it:

Chris Isaak Finds 'Soulmate' In Actress Bai Ling
------------------------------------------------------------------------
(8/21/98, 3 p.m. PDT) - Love was in the air Monday at the Santa Monica,
Calif. Pier during the video shoot for Chris Isaak's new single,
"Please."

The crooning Casanova and his co-star Bai Ling, the Chinese actress who
played Richard Gere's lawyer in MGM's Red Corner, hit it off.

"In this line of work you meet people for a moment, but I'm feeling like
Bai and I are soulmates," Isaak said. "My idea of a perfect day would be
laying on the beach while she sings 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes' and I eat
a
big bag of Corn Nuts."

Ling, who hadn't heard Isaak's music before being cast, says the feeling
is mutual. She gushed, "He is very handsome and has a beautiful voice.
Between takes, we talk about everything and he sings me all these great
songs."

Many of the serenades can be found on his Sept. 22 Reprise release,
Speak Of The Devil, which was produced by Isaak, Eric Jacobsen and
Rob Cavallo. Beyond Fall U.S. and European tours, Isaak will also be
seen on the silver screen early next year as a cop in Shepherd.

After suggesting the pair run away from showbiz to open a Chinese
restaurant in San Francisco, Isaak admitted the encounter is probably
another wicked game. "Today things are great, but tomorrow her career
will take off and she'll be in movie after movie until she meets some
wealthy producer. I'll look like yesterday's toast."

Look for a full Chris Isaak feature on myLAUNCH in the coming weeks.

Apparently Chris Isaak has a thing for Asian women, since most of his
girlfriends have been Asian.

This is something I heard about 10 years ago from someone that worked at his
record label. It's one of the few bits of gossip that seems to hold up over
time, and is one of the reasons I doubt he's gay.

Not to mention that he has a party trick that would really be a hit on
Fire Island ... if he was in the gay scene, that is.

Well, I personally don't believe that he's gay, although that could just
be because I'm a cool Asian girl. ;-)
Anyway, Isaak himself has said that people probably think he's gay based
on the following evidence:

1. He lives alone in San Francisco, has done for about 15 years.
2. He idols are Connie Francis, Raymond Burr and Tony Curtis.
3. He loves his momma.
4. His friend, Doc Renneker, has been his "date" for the Bammies for 2
years running.

There were other examples, but they escape me right now.

Since when are Raymond Burr and Tony Curtis gay icons?

Maybe that's the point he's trying to make? He doens't even know what a
gay icon is.

I wouldn't call them icons, but there's some definite interest there.
Burr was closeted, even after death, it appears, while Curtis was a
fantasy for gay men throughout the '50s.

Thank you...as another person born in 1956 (alas, a *few* bassinets away from
the one in which Mr. Isaak was placed), I can confirm that being 42 doesn't
feel that much different from being 22 ... though it was rather disconcerting
to watch "Foul Play" (1978) on Encore this afternoon and realize that a lot of
20-year-olds might think, "God, those clothes and hairstyles are *ancient*!"

Yes but Isaak, being 42, wasn't doing much sexual fantasizing in the '50s.

How old is Stevie Nicks? Isaak's 42, so there can't be *that* huge a
difference, can there???
BTW, I just got to thinking, maybe Isaak *is* gay, but he reckons that
Ms. Nicks can cure his homosexuality? <heh> ;-)

My 39 year old sister told me that a friend of hers, who is her age, is
dating a 60-year-old woman. I think that's great!

That's what I thought too -- a reference to the Tony Curtis-Larry Olivier
"oysters and snails" scene in Spartacus.

I was reading that the gorgeous Maxwell Caulfield, who is 38,
is married to 56-year-old Juliet Mills. They married when
he was *only* 21 and she was 39 and they are *still* married
17 years later! (And working on stage together, too!). And
people said it would never last. <g>
