Eeep! Yeah, that's rather more freakworthy than some once-in-a-decade

I think you should be safe for the 3rd at least; even if they don't work
out a deal on the debt in time, I'm sure there are less urgent bills
that would be postponed before things like SSDI. Though I haven't been
following the US political situation very closely.

wondering when the sky will clear. It was supposed to be nice today. My
girl is still asleep upstairs and the dog is parked snugly behind me waiting
for me to leave the computer. We've had a fun, fast, busy summer here.
Some whitewater, some boat time, a big adventure trailering our 18' runabout
to a new lake for her first ever time in different water. This weekend is
somewhat quiet... weeding, mowing, hopefully some canoeing, and a cookout in
Freeport followed by a free Amos Lee show at LL Bean. Not too shabby!
While I'm there, I'll avail myself of the remaining sixer of Abita Brewery's
Turbodog beer. LOVE that stuff and Bow Street market are the only ones
around that sell it.
Good luck on the job front Sarah! So cool. I'm seven years into my career
in State government and not at all enjoying that my career pursuits hang in
a political balance. We have a new office director- the prior summarily
dismissed even though he did a Very Good Job. The new boss doesn't attend
Very Important Meetings and I believe both she and her husband (that got her
the job) are the tea-bagging variety.
I'm utterly disgusted by the pace of politics in the US these days. A lot
of this nonsense, I believe, has a great deal to due with the festering,
rabid racisim in this country and a group of people who will throw us all
under the bus to be sure the first black president fails. It's just
dreadful.
I'm starting to see some sun sparkling out on the lake. Very pretty. And
becuase I want to get out there, I need to redirect my attention to a little
writing assignment I promised the editor of our intermittent, local,
whitewater focused rag...

Trees down in our area but not on us. I feel for those that got
pummeled, flooded, etc. Been through all but the flooding and I think

Our power is out due to a large popple tree that did topple. Just the top of it... it's laying acros the road, suspended on one side by the power line and on the other by the gentle embrace of a white pine. It's the only road in and out, so we have to drive under it. A puff of breeze could get someone killed.
We were luckier than friends who live up to Carrabassett Valley. The river roared and took out bridges and large sections of road. Their house is up to it's knees in mud. And i'm sure they don't have power either... so it makes my bitching just a little less meaningful.
Tell you, I've had a horrendous time sleeping with our usual nightime sounds replaced by the clater and wrack of generators.

Work (which is only 10 minutes from my house) took longer to get back to
normal. We had no (or limited) water pressure there all day Monday
too...and were told to limit our power usage, so no lights.
