Yes, most likely just a mockup. Spoofing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
seems kind of redundant...

My partner Callie says "Commando Koalas? As distinct from the ones that
do wear underpants?". I really really hate her sometimes ;)

not really new. I think I started posting in 1996 when aslm was asl.
shucks, now you've made me go back to the archives to look up my first
post date!

by the time it became moderated, I was posting less and less. but i
was here when (to name a few) Renee Vivien had her baby and Sarah
Heather C were posting....when Ali first visited (maybe that jogs a
memory as everyone who's currently posting seems to know Ali) and she
visited when en route to the States many many years ago. i've lost
track of her so if anyone has heard from her...?

The Commando Koalas(tm) would like to know, as well. (Unless...

It looks like she's on Facebook
(http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=50657387768), along with some
other familiar names that haven't popped up on the list recently.
Possibly someone who actually has a Facebook account could ask them to

Mary! I was thinking of you yesterday... Found a book in the shift
reminding me not to squat with my spurs on :-)

I gave the worm farm to a friend who had much greater success! The
worms just kept doing themselves in at an alarming rate no matter how
much love they got...

I have recently bought a beautiful little farm with my partner - left
academia behind at the end of 09 other than some research supervision.
We have a little herd of dexters and some rather poorly behaved goats
who should be providing us with milk by the end of the year. There are
assorted geese and ducks living out retirement here and we have plans
to extend our free range dairy to other animals (apologies to the
vegetarians...). It is early days...

What is new with you? How have the years treated you?

You might need to remember that more now that you're on a farm, except I'm not seeing you
as a spur wearing kind of farmer!

Am I right in thinking that dexters are a breed of cattle? Sorry I'm a city girl, even if I do live in
the midst of the great american prairie (and farmland). It all sounds peaceful and lovely, and
a lot of work.

> What is new with you? How have the years treated you?

The years have treated me okay, other than the normal stuff that happens as one gets older.
I still live in the same place and have the same job, although it has evolved over time, and
continues to evolve. I'd love to be able to retire, but my thoughts of early retirement kinda
went downhill with my retirement fund when the economy tanked in 2008. It didn't all
disappear, but the "early" part certainly did.

Hehe... Only last week i had to explain to some kids about the
oddities of canadian clothing brands!!?? Probably more feral than
anything these days - we are 'off the grid' so the laundry machinery
only works if the sun has been shining (or i run the stinky, noisy

Not a big problem in Australia, surely? Though seriously, not being
dependent on the grid is definitely a good thing, though I can imagine
it might take a bit of getting used to.

Cool 8) Sounds like a nice place! We just a have a stray rabbit that
hangs out in our back yard a lot. The cats aren't entirely sure what to
make of it.

On 18 Apr 2010 19:53:15 -0400, the infamous furry-earred, feral Aussie
ethicist, Alison Brookes <ab...@unimelb.edu.au> was spotted after a
looooooong absence, (in which it was privately speculated that she had
met an ignominious end, at the hands of KumQuats(tm)). In her time
away from aslm, she has apparently cast off the chains of ackademia,
giving her the freedom to her write with flourish -- er, inasmuch as
it is _possible_ to write with flourish when one is pulling grass
seeds from her socks -- nevermind, it threw me, too...(and she's

Ahhh...<nods encouragingly>...I see. And, you...er, you _chose_ this

I'm glad the sudden flurry of activity brought Mary out. I was
thinking of you last month when I pulled some cups from a little
place in Wichita from my cupboard! I need to plan another trip
"home" soon. One of my mares decided to give birth yesterday,
she forgot to tell me she was pregnant. so she delivers in a
pasture wit 4 other horses. She was supposedly sterile (right,
delivering a mule two weeks early and retaining her placenta. I am
playing vet.

LOL! Everyone just calls me D. If one deconstructs the e-mail,
one'll find that I hid shoes in my username.

:-D,
feet still awake (it's late, i know, but the party next door finally
stopped raging!)

Hi, HI, HIYA! *hug* Hey Ali, did you know that you're "virtually
famous"? One post mentioning just your name caused fans to descend
the red (ahem, grass covered) carpet to see you!

unlike you who have escaped the ivory tower, i am still inside but am
excited to know that there is the potential for escape to cows and an
ungridded lifestyle. I ponder the very idea of getting off the grid
on a regular basis -- i'm half-way seriously considering slapping
solar panels on my roof but am worried the weight will just cave the
roof.

guess the kids are all grown up? time sure does fly.

please do continue to regale us with stories of kumquats(tm), goats,
geese, ducks and dexters (is that a type of shoe?)...this way i can
live vicariously through you!

cheers,
:-D

this line brings to mind the "captain underpants" books for kids ... makes me reminisce about when my now-hulking-17-year-old son was an adorable little boy
and evil mod sarah would send him captain underpants books ...

mommy feet that have been spoiling aforementioned hulking 17-yr-old today ... he is working SO hard to get ready for a battery of AP exams
