The Feb14th Update has happened. Many new Authors and several stories
have appeared on the Resident
Authors Page this week. They all looked good to me. I've never seen so
many good stories. Ron has written another
epic, 173k zipped named "Sherry"....And I have to tell you there is

The Censorware Project has released a report on Cyber Patrol's
blocking of Deja News, a newsgroup archiving site. Read "Cyber Patrol

February 12, 1998
Solid Oak Software announces it's censorware program, CYBERsitter will
soon include the functionality to block Advertisement Banners on
websites. A ZDNet News article has the story.
The Texas Pagan Awareness Organization has become aware of Solid Oak's
harassment of a pagan last week, after she had emailed the company
regarding CYBERsitter. They have set up a special webpage to address
the issue.
A proposal by Seth Warshavsky, head of the Internet Entertainment
Group, advocates the adoption of a ".adult" suffix for erotic
entertainment on the Internet. More can be found at MSNBC.com.
And in case you missed it ... Rep. James Traficant recently called on
Congress to go beyond the "v-chip," the device designed to "protect"
minors from content on the Internet and television. Instead, he says,
"The Internet needs a chastity chip," apparently referring to a woman
who recently alleged she had gotten pregnant through an email
exchange. Yahoo actually has a story on this.

More developments on Senator John McCain's (R-AZ) bill to only offer
federal subsidies to libraries and schools that impliment filtering
services on their Internet connections. Wired News covers the story.

filtering software (in a very Suck-like way) in today's Nasty Habits
column.

A Wired News Article and a News.com Article discuss accusations that
Solid Oak Software, the makers of CYBERsitter, mailbombed a mother of
two. She alleges they sent over 800 email messages to her account
after she had sent email to several Solid Oak addresses about
CYBERsitter.
February 6, 1998
The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a complaint in a First
Amendment lawsuit pending against the Loudoun County Library System.
The complaint lists some of the sites that have been blocked by
X-Stop, the blocking product being used in Loudoun County. People For
the American Way has already filed a lawsuit against the library
system in cooperation with Mainstream Loudoun and other local patrons.

a passionate GoDSpiT update tonight to unveil his new page design and

to squeeze in Red Rose's latest chapter to Three For Jack
an adjustment to the page's editorial functions has been made. These
services will be available by Author request only.
Some adjustments had to made in the presentation of editing services
and the preservation of the Author's expressions. I will try
and publish more commentary on this subject as soon as I can format
it.
once again...no update scheduled this weekend- way too busy. But
