I think we all realize this. What amazes me is that some many of us will take the time,
better spent doing something else, to perpetuate these stupid messages. Over the many
years that this has been going on, has anyone here actually managed to stop these childish
posters from continuing their idiotic tirade? Has anyone ever managed to persuade these
know-nothing tyrants that what they've posted is wrong and should be retracted? I doubt
that very much. And that's because we're mainly dealing with one of two types:
over-privileged white adolescent boyz with homosexual tendencies, and confused gay men
(and, sometimes, women) who're scared to accept the fact that they're attracted to members
of their own gender. Both of these types are unsure what to make of their sexual urges,
and therefore find their way into the gay newsgroups to lash out in frustration. It gives
them a sense of validation. A false sense of validation, to be sure. But, anything is
better than having to deal with the possibility of being, somehow, different. It's a very
sad situation. And the thing is that most of us automatically assume that hetties are
posting these offensive messages. The reality is, most hetties, like most normal
homosexuals, are so busy trying to manage their own lives, they have no time to be
thinking of anyone else's problems.
So, what can we, as a group, do, to stop all this nonsensical cross-posting, and regain
control of these newsgroups so we can discuss items of importance to us as homosexuals?
Short of converting them to moderated status (and who wants to have to moderate these
groups?), the only other way would be for us all to simply quit responding to blatantly
idiotic hate-spam. Note who the posters are, and add their names to our news reader's
filter. In Outlook Express, this can be found under the menu item "Tools|Newsgroup
Filters..." and then press the [Add] button on the Newsgroup Filters window. I'm sure
other news readers have similar filtering capabilities. This will immediately silence
about 25% of the blinding noise being generated in the newsgroups by the hate mongers. If
we all then simply ignore the replies to these hate messages, they will eventually peter
out. Or, if you absolutely MUST respond, change the subject heading to something
gay-positive. For example, change "All homosexuals will die" to "All gay people are
wonderful". And make your replies as positive and upbeat as possible. Ignore, or delete!,
what is said, and replace it with a gay-positive narrative. Don't bother quoting scripture
or statistics or news bulletins -- none of those pitifully confused homos who post those
hate messages are going to actually read what you have to say anyway. Being overridingly
positive, or simply ignoring the posts, will make them stop eventually.

alt.politics.homosexuality was created specifically *to* contain posts
such as these and the defenses and arguments for and against them.
While cross-posting to soc.motss is inappropriate and off-charter,
they *do* belong in alt.politics.homosexuality.
Trust me -- I am the person who is uniquely capable of stating why it
exists.

alt.homosexuality and, of all places, alt.personals.gay! And it's THOSE newsgroups that I
feel we need to reclaim for ourselves. Right now, and for the last few years (at least
since 1996), many of the gay newsgroups have been overrun by inconsiderate people,
cross-posting their idiotic nonsense.
As for the question about people with no lives having an alternate forum in which to
express their opinions. I have no idea, and I really don't care. I'm just sick of seeing
ridiculous message headers constantly in three main gay discussion newsgroups
(alt.homosexual, alt.homosexuality and, alt.personals.gay).
