Hi all,

I have a Singer 241-12 industrial sewing machine with a Consew 2/5 HP
clutch motor. When I turn off the machine the motor keeps going. I even
unplug it and it's still going. I'm assuming there is a brake somewhere
that makes the motor stop when the power is turned off.

Can someone help me or tell me where I might look for an answer.

Thanks, Linda

Industrial motors have a heavy rotor that spins at 3450 RPM they do not stop
immediately when turned off. If it bothers you that much you can always step
on the treadle and it will slow to a stop sooner due to the drag from the
machine.

Thanks Ron for replying. I've had this machine for well over 30 years.
We've been moving and I haven't used it for awhile. I don't remember it
spinning this long. I remember (could be wrong) it slowing down when I
turned if off and coming to a stop. It doesn't even slow down. I did
step on the treadle and that didn't help. Hmm, I'll try again tomorrow
and see what's up.

It doesn't really bother me, but I don't want to ruin the motor. I love
this machine and it has served me well for many years.

Thanks again for your help. Linda

Either it slows down or you've discovered free energy and broken the
laws of physics.

actually she said when power is turned "OFF"
not unplugged. The on /off switch controls a
relay which does the actual work of on/off. If the
relay is fried and staying
"on", the switch can be off and power still applied to
motor. You need to get it fixed, there is a bad
relay. I am 99.9% sure.

You are 100% incorrect.
My answer was the correct one.
