I recently purchased a sewing book by Sandra Betzina in which
she *very* specifically recommends Ban Rol elastic. Any ideas
why? She infers that it's because it is a superior product (she
doesn't come outright and say that); I have no experience
with it whatsoever, so I can't say how it compares. Since I want
to make the garment right away, I'll probably go ahead and use
whatever elastic I have in my stash anyway, but I'm curious
as to what other sewers think.

Ta!

I started using Ban-Rol stretch elastic waistband as a stabilizer for all my
zipper-closured pants and skirts, and I would not use any other type of
waistband interfacing. It does not roll, it has enough stretch to be comfy,
but not so much that it stretches out of shape. Nancy's Notions also sells
what they call Wonder Stretchband, which, as far as I can tell, is the same
thing as the Ban-Rol brand, and comes in my favorite 1 1/4" width.

Thanks, Iris. I looked for Ban-roll at Hancock fabrics this past
weekend. No dice. Checked Joann's. Nada. Zip. Bupkus. I
guess I'll have to order it from Nancy.

I've received several emails from folks who all concur that this
is a superior product, and that using it will add significantly
to the life of the garment. You don't have to tell me twice, sounds
great to me - especially considering that I used an inferior (as it
turns out) elastic when I was making my favorite pair of pants, and
now the waistband is shot.

The clerk at my local Hancocks told me that if enough people started
asking for the Ban-Rol that they could possibly begin carrying it. So
lets all start asking. Normally if people start asking for a product at
Hancocks they will try to carry it. Lynda

Hi, all. Based on Sandra Betzina's experience, I have purchased rolls of the
Ban-Roll from Clothilde's catalogue. I think she has the best price, and I
like to buy a good product in quantity. No telling when something will
disappear from the market, or become really, really expensive.

I've read with interest the comments on "Ban-Rol." I agree that it is a
good product, but I must add that it is not a good product for
everyone. I have found that, for some people who have well defined
waists but are on the heavy side, the stiff fibers eventually start to
poke out, causing damage to the fabric and considerable discomfort for
the wearer.

I'm definitely not skinny. I've been using the stretch ban-roll for several
years in items I've washed repeatedly and I've never had a problem. I did
use another product that claimed to be non-roll that had no stretch. This
one did roll, and proved to be very uncomfortable because it was very stiff
and prickly.
