New Year's Sewing Resolutions...

Or call them aims, if you like! Stick to just three. See if you can
make them work all year...

Mine are:

*Keep the sewing room tidy!*
It's so much easier to sew when I can see and find everything, and it's
all where I need it to be!

*Keep the cutting area tidy!*
All too often parts of different projects pile up and get muddled, and
it wastes so much time if I have to find all the bits for a project
before I can get on with the next bit.

I'm starting these two now. The sewing room was tidied to within an
inch of it's life so my brother could sleep there over Christmas, and in
a couple of weeks I'll need to set it up again for guests for my sewing
workshop weekend, so it'll stay tidy. I need to make space fopr four to
six of us to cut and sew in the conservatory, so THAT will be the next
place to get the White Tornado! I'm getting the laundry done, and
slowly sorting and stacking stuff with the aim of having a clear large
cutting area, the iron set up, and a table or two of sewing machines!

*Get to grips with the weight problem*
While this may sound more personal than sewing, it isn't really. All
the time I'm carrying the excess weight (mostly water, but definitely
some excess fat too!), I'm wasting energy lugging about 25lbs around
that is wearing me down. I'll have a lot more energy without it, be a
lot more comfortable, and the fibro will have less of a hold on me
because OTHER problems will be easier to cope with! Swollen fingers
cannot sew properly, and swollen painful knees don't stand at the
cutting table well, nor sit well at the sewing machine, and nor do they
cope with pressing or going up and down stairs and ladders. So much of
what I do that services the sewing will be easier. So on to the strict
new diet from Monday (I'm going to try the Waterfall Diet for the water
retention), back to Weight Watchers, back to swimming... New Year, new me!

My first and urgent personal sewing project will be to finish off that
swimsuit!

You will be able to keep to your Resolutions!
A few weeks ago I was at the dr. office and let him know I wanted to get a
physical, and I found out that I had high blood sugar. It has taken me 3
weeks to get the numbers down to what they should be. I feel so much better
and I am determine to keep it that way. When the BS is up it makes it
hard for me to concentrate on sewing.
So that is my goal for the New Year!

Three weeks is excellent going! If you are doing it by diet alone,
that's really hard. Himself is a Type 1 diabetic, and keeping things
even over Christmas is a whole load of fun!

My Waterfall diet is going to take some fun planning!

Thanks! I just don't eat anything whilet because it will contain sugar or
carbs. I stopped eating cookies and substituted pop corn without all the
butter & salt. Your diet sounds like it will work good for you!

congrats on getting it under control so quickly!

my 2K10 aims are (i like aims so much better than resolutions...)

1-shed some lbs. If i do, I'll take more of an interest in wanting to
attempt to sew some clothing for myself...as well as just be a
healthier person.

2-clean out the closet-donate fabric i know i will never use (what was
I thinking with purchasing that eyelash stuff years ago???) and work
on organization

3-dedicate some time every week to sewing. I posted elsewhere that
this was the first sewing I have done in a couple of years...even if
they were just PJ bottoms, it felt so good to be back sewing!

Has your thyroid been checked recently? Hypothyroidism will cause water
retention, slows your metabolism and your will to exercise, and makes it
really hard to lose any weight. With your other health problems, it
would be easy for the doctors to overlook a thyroid issue. It's a
really quick and easy blood test to find out.

I was faced with a choice several months ago of sewing a whole new
wardrobe for myself or losing some weight. I just wasn't willing to sew
a bunch of fat clothes and I *hate* dieting. I'm willing to cut out the
salt (helps with blood pressure & water retention, plus if I avoid salt
I don't get migraines) and cut down on the fats (but I won't give up
butter), and go lightly on the sugary items, but that's pretty much the
end of what I'm willing to do diet-wise.

That means that if I want to lose weight, I have to exercise more, but
meaningless exercise just to be exercising is too hard to stick with, so
I made a bargain with DH: he is to leave the woodpile alone. I go out
every day with the splitting maul and sledge hammer and exercise by
splitting and hauling the firewood. Since we heat entirely with wood
and it's a long time yet to springtime in Alaska, there's no room to
slack off. It's been slow going, but I've gotten rid of 15 pounds and
have just 10 more to go--and I get to eat all the healthy food I want
without feeling guilty.

Oh, yes! Several times over the last few years. My thyriod, like my
heart and blood pressure, are in excellent nick. I wish it was that
easy, but evidence suggests that it is far more likely to be caused by
something like a wheat allergy. I'm allergic to all sorts of things,
and wheat is about the only thing that gives me hay fever...

I lost 70 lbs on Weight Watchers. The regime suits my post gall bladder
op inability to process fats propeerly.

I never feel guilty about food. Life is way too short for that! As my
lack of gall bladder and IBS mean that eating sugary foods, fatty foods
and excesses of red meat, coffee, alcohol and several other things gets
painful, I do tend to watch my diet fairly carefully. It's drifted a
bit recently, which is why there's some fat to cut as well as the water.

Swimming and walking are the only forms of exercise I'll take willingly,
and both are best for keeping mt generally fit and tones without
stressing the joints too much. I'll be getting back to them too this
week. Getting the water off the knees is going to make the walking much
less painful, and that will strengthen the quads and stop the kneecaps
falling off! :D

I'm determined to get that 20lbs back off and get back to my goal and
the 70lbs gone I had before.

Swimming isn't an option here, but you're absolutely right about
walking. I think next to swimming it's the all around best exercise for
keeping a person fit and toned, and in decent weather it's exercise I
enjoy.
