Hi folks - I noticed this machine + cabinet at a nearby auction
and wondered if anyone here has knowledge or experience with it ?
A bit of internet searching seems to indicate that it is mid-late
1970s and electronic <?>

1975: SINGER brand introduces the world’s first electronic sewing
machine, the Athena 2000.

The Singer Athena 2000 is a mid-late 1970s electronic sewing machine manufactured by Singer. It is known for its advanced features and capabilities, including electronic controls and a wide range of stitch options. It was popular among seamstresses and home sewers at the time, and many of these machines are still in use today. The Singer Athena 2000 was often sold with a matching cabinet, which was designed to provide a convenient workspace and storage solution for the sewing machine. Overall, the Singer Athena 2000 is considered a well-made and reliable sewing machine that is still highly regarded by many sewing enthusiasts.

As with any sewing machine, the Singer Athena 2000 may have some common issues such as:

1. Threading problems: Threading issues can result in incorrect stitching and jams in the machine.
2. Bobbin tension: Incorrect bobbin tension can cause thread loops or tangles.
3. Needle problems: A dull or bent needle can cause skipped stitches and damage to fabric.
4. Electrical issues: The electronic components of the Singer Athena 2000 may fail over time, causing issues with the machine's operation.
5. Stitch quality: Inconsistent stitch quality can be caused by a variety of factors, such as incorrect needle size, incorrect thread tension, or a worn needle plate.

It's important to note that these issues are common to many types of sewing machines, not just the Singer Athena 2000. Regular maintenance and proper use can help prevent and resolve these issues.

When evaluating a sewing machine, you should consider the following factors to judge the quality:

1. Stitching quality: Check the stitch quality and ensure that the machine makes even and consistent stitches.
2. Durability: Check the machine’s build quality and the materials used. A well-made machine will be sturdy and have a longer lifespan.
3. Ease of use: Test the machine’s controls and features, such as threading, tension, and needle threading. Look for a machine that is easy to use and has a clear manual.
4. Versatility: Check the machine’s range of stitch options and its compatibility with various types of fabrics.
5. Maintenance: Look for a machine with a simple maintenance routine and easily accessible parts.
6. Brand reputation: Research the brand and its reputation for producing quality sewing machines. Consider customer reviews and ratings for the machine you are interested in.
7. Warranty: Look for a machine with a good warranty, covering repairs and maintenance for a reasonable period.
8. Price: Consider the cost of the machine and compare it to others in the same category to determine whether it is good value for money.
