I have a button-out quilted Thinsulate lining from an old coat. The lining is
in excellent condition, and I want to use it to make a similar lining for a
new coat. According to the fiber tag, the shell is 50% polyester and 50%
cotton; the lining is 100% nylon; the Thinsulate insulation is 65% olefin
fibers and 35% polyester fibers.

The tag says "professionally dry clean only," but some things marked this
way can be carefully hand-washed and line-dried. I have never tried
washing Thinsulate. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had
experience -- good or bad -- washing this material.

Thanks,

I have a jacket made of Gore-Tex (waterproof and breathable)
which is lined with thinsulate. I have washed it in hand-hot
water with a mild liquid cleaner, the kind supposed to be
designed for washing-by-hand, and it has been none the worse for
the experience. It has also been through a tumble drier on more
than one occasion, because it takes forever to dry on a line.
June.
