I am interested in purchasing a serger, but as I am new to sewing I do not
know what things to look for. The main reason I would like a serger is to
give my garments a neat and professional look. I have looked at a number of
different ones, but would like to hear some opinions of which ones you would
strongly recommend or would not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Karen
I had an ancient Baby Lock (about 12 years) that all I used it for was
serging the seams before or after sewing. I have a Viking Huskylock 1002LCD
that I like a lot. I am on a serger list right now that we are having a
serge along and trying a stitch a week. This week is the Flatlock stitch.
I recommend you taking some material with you and test driving several
machines. Can't beat the ones with differential feed that they make now.
They are a great help in keeping from flaring or puckering different types
of material.
I think I test drove about 5 sergers before picking the 1002LCD. It has an
LCD screen that tells me how to thread it, in what order, for every stitch.
It also has a trouble shooting guide you can scroll through as well. Comes
in handy.
