Singer Stylist 834 TIMING Belt

I have a Singer Stylist 834. This is a good machine but I needed to replace
the timing Belt and motor Drive belts. I repair engines so i thought i could
take this minor task on.

In short, the Belts are replaced and I tried to maintain all of the original
timing with respect to the top and bottom drive shafts connected by the timing
belts.

Obviously something slipped. The needle is now being scraped by the bobbin
device. The cams that move the zig zag levers for the needle are also out of
position so I could not locate any timing marks on the shafts or bushings.

In order to change the inside timing belt the main shaft must be slid out the
front of the machine by about 2 inches to get the belt onto the shaft.

Any help would be appreciated- I am trying to align everything by trial and
error but not with great success.

The job you thought was minor is actually a very complicated job. The
problem you have now is just the beginning, there are a lot more adjustments
you will have to make along the way.
This is a job even a lot of places that say the repair machines will not
handle.
If you are local and want to drop it off I can help. It will not be
inexpensive, in fact probably more than the $175.00 I would have charged to
do it in the first place.

I always charge an extra Fix-the-Error fee to take over
someone else's botched job.

I was thinking, when I first read OP's message, "that's a
repair which should not be attempted without the *service*
manual, and not even then unless one know what one is
doing."

Or in fewer words: "Ping Ron!" ;-)

I posted the help singer stylist 834 timing belt question.

It took a little bit of effort and i thank all those that responded for the
motivation to get this fixed Without help and without the repair manual. I
like a challenge and for those of you that offered to help for $$ I
appreciated the offer but i managed to figure it out. It took a great deal of
observation but the machine works fine now.

This is a good machine and with new belts it should last well into the future.

And 8 years later I'm stumped trying to figure out how to get that belt off. I'm stubborn too so I'm sure I'll figure it out but I'll come back and post how I did it

Best left to a professional you have to take the entire upper shaft out
