Ok, so my Wife has a Singer Stylist 533 from her grandmother who
passed away last year. She is trying to learn how to sew. First, we
can't seem to find a manual on the internet anywhere for this
machine.. and photocopies are $15. Can anyone give us some tips on how
to load the bobbin? thanks.

Didn't find threading diagram for the "Singer 533 Stylist" but
there is one here for the Singer 534 Stylist, that may be close
enough to get you started:

http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diagrams/Threading_Pages/Singer_Sewing_Machine_Threading/singer_534_stylist_threading_diagram.htm

As for the manual, $15.00 isn't all that much but you can get one
here for $12.00:
http://www.sewwhat.net/millie/H.sm_manualsCOPIES.htm

Also $12.00 with free shipping, here:
http://www.mastersewusa.com/index.html

However, I don't know anything about those sites. Personally, I
would go with the sewusa.com manual:

Hi,

I inherited the same machine from my grandmother. Unfortunately, the
machine is gone, but I still have the manual if you are still interested.
No charge - just hate to throw it away.

Thanks,
Carrie

Just so you know the Stylist 513 is closest to the 533, it is in the same series. you can find the manual as well as the threading diagram at http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diagrams/Threading_Pages/Singer_Sewing_Machine_Threading/singer_513_threading_diagram.htm

Haven't seen the original post yet, but here's the complete manual, free, from
Singer: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1300_533.pdf

I haven't either, maybe it have tripped on my "Ok, so my
Wife..." rule.

Or, perhaps it's because it was posted "Sunday, April 22,
2007 2:07:08 PM UTC-"

Look at the headers and you'll notice the reason why you haven't seen the
original post yet:

The person who first responded doesn't seem to be paying attention and has
answered a question that was posed in April of 2007.

Put bobbin in machine so it unwinds counter-clockwise. Thread it into the slot that goes down diagonally. Then make sure it gets under the tension spring. I used a pin to force it around/under the spring. Then, and I don't believe the manual makes this clear, turn the hand wheel BACKWARDS. If you turn the wheel forwards the needle will not catch the bobbin thread.

That thread is almost 6 years old, time to toss it?

Not to mention that one should never turn the hand wheel backwards
especially trying to pick up the thread.

The only occasion I have for turning the fly-wheel
backwards, is at corners in case I go one-stitch-too-far and
need to "unlock" the last formed stitch. ;-}
