I have misplaced my manual for my Penney's Sewing Machine. If anyone has
one we can discuss model and type. My daughter would like to have the
machine and to use it but as I have not used it is years I can not remember
much to help her. It has quite a few cams with it for decortive stitches. I
think that the only stitch that it does without a cam is the straight zig
zag.

You can purchase many sewing machine manuals for a very
reasonable cost at:
http://www.sew4less.com/manuals.php
and
http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Instruction_Manuals.htm

Beverly,
I thank you for your suggestions. I checked both sites for my model number
but it was not there. The Model Number that I am seeking a manual for is
3501.

I don't know what year you bought the machine, but in 1985, I bought a
computer machine w/100 stitches, including a manuscript font from J C
Penney's and it is a White/Husqvarna. Perhaps if you know the manufacturer,
their web site may have your manual.
On the same or almost the same, I made copies of the basics of my sewing
manuals and have them in a loose-leaf notebook. Should I misplace the
manual itself, I have the basics saved.

I believe the sewing machine was purchased in the early 70's. I am not sure
the year. It is pre-computer and had I had the sense that you have in those
days I too would have copy. I have to Husqvarna sewing machines and a
BabyLock Serger. All of which I have copies of the manuals both in a
notebook and on a CD. But.........
Wasn't smart enough to do that with the Penney's model. I am sure that it
never got thrown out but as we have been in this home for almost 40 years to
find it is going to be a chore as we have been in a remodeling mode for many
years now and nothing is where it was. That added to the fact that my sewing
room is in the basement and we suffered a water logged room on one occasion
and the invasion of mice on two others I am at a loss as to where I really
have the papers for the machine. I will keep looking though as I am sure
there is not way to derequisition them from J. C. Penney's. I am not sure
when they quit supplying machines and sewing products. Thanks to the two of
you that tried to help me.

Keep in mind that Penney's never made any sewing machine. They
contracted with a manufacturer to put their name on a machine. So, if
you can figure out which company that is, you have a better chance to
locating at least some basic instructions from a similar machine.
Sometimes a really careful examination of a machine will reveal a name,
or at the very least, a country of origin.

Did you look all over the machine for a name of a manufacturer? I have
loaned my machine to a friend in Austin(I live in Houston) for her to make
baby outfits, so I can't look right now, but I must have found the info
somewhere on the machine to know who made it since this before I had access
to internet.

Hi Emily,
Ok, nothng on the machine itself except that it is made in Japan and
designed for J. C. Penney. I did find that the controller is manufactered
by Janome Electric Co., Ltd., Japan. So where do you think I should go
now?

I would try contacting the Janome Sewing Machine headquarters and see if
someone there can help you, since the controller came from that co. You can
go to www.janome.com and maybe find out where the headquarters are located
and maybe more information. Maybe someone else will have a better idea.

Thanks Emily. I am thinking that being a the machine looks as though it
might need to be serviced being it has not been used for many years that I
will check with the people that service them and see if they have any ideas.
You have been very patient with me.

I think folks do a search for a particular phrase, and when
they find *any* message containing that phrase they reply to
it without checking the date. sewgirls.com doesn't exactly
display the date prominently, it's actually kind of hidden
in a fuzzy bar *above* the message.

Indeed. It would do everyone a huge service if "inspirepoint.com"

Or just stop archiving alt.sewing...

My guess is that people do a search on a particular subject/phrase,
and when they get a hit they fire off a response without checking
the entire thread. inspirepoint.com took over the sewgirls
domain, their interface leaves a lot to be desired, IMHO.

> Is "inspirepoint" hiding the original dates

No, it's there, just placed way over on the left side, separated
from the message by ads and stuff. Although it *might* be
intentional. They call themselves "The Internet's Premiere Crafts
Portal"

No, we're not offended just astounded that you would ask a question of 'Geno' who last posted in 2009 and the original thread you latched onto is s e v e n (7) years old. I don't think 'Geno' is hanging around waiting to answer anyone's question of a manual.

Why not come here directly and dump that "premier crafts portal"?

Service providers don't do that any more. (Or provide much in the way
of service, tonight. Either Comcast is fiddling with its equipment or
it ought to be.)

She will have to go to http://www.eternal-september.org/

I hope that address is correct. Hardly any of the page had loaded
