Hi,

I have a PE-150 and need advise from the group. Every time I embroider
anything color black my bobbin thread shows up. It only happens with really
dark color threads. I clean the bobbin holder every time I change the bobbin
because of all the lint. I took my machine once before to my brother dealer
but they charged me $100 for cleaning the bobbin. I do a lot of projects
with my little PE-150 and its only 1 year old. What can I do? Is it done
and I just need a bigger and stronger machine? I'm in the middle of
embroidering a shirt for my father-in-law and my DH is driving me crazy.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
K

Try using Nebs prewound bobbins.....they are much much better than anything
you can wind yourself..........

Perhaps the bobbin thread just doesn't show when you're using lighter
threads?

There are three things that might help:
Have the tension on the bobbin case checked for lint and proper
adjustment.
Use a good quality bobbin thread, rather than the cheap stuff you
might get at a dollar store or Walmart.
Use more/better stabilizer. Scimping on stabilizer is the leading
cause of bobbin thread pull-up.

Hi,

Thank you for your answers. I've been using nebs prewounded bobbins since
day 1, but I keep having the same problem. That's why I decided to wind
black thread bobbins, to give them a try.

I'm thinking than I should masybe use a better stabalizer.

Any other suggestions?

I have had 3 Brother machines and once you start having problems with
the bobbin thread coming to the top, I suggest getting rid of the
machine.
I bought an 8500, the tension modem went out on it so traded up to a
ULT 2001. It worked good for a little while but then started having
tension problems... Took this machine to the BROTHER headquarters in
Bartlett, TN so the "professionals" could work on it. They kept it a
week, I picked it up, it sewed out one design properly then went right
back to the problem. I did this 3 times and the last time, I told
them that if they couldn't repair it, I wanted it replaced.
Replacement was promised but I had to threaten them with litigation
before I actually got a new machine, which was a ULT 2002D.
D-I-L bought a portable Brother machine and the tension was never
right on it. Hubby took it in several times for repair but no quality
sewing was ever done on that machine...
Moral of the story...Don't buy Brother...

You need to release the upper tension a little (lower number) or if you have
done this or feel it is as low as it should be then increase the lower
tension by tightening the tension spring on the bobbin case (not really
recommended unless you know what you are doing) look for a tiny screw on the
bobbin case spring and tighten it (slightly ) maybe a quarter of a turn at a
time. Try stitching and repeat as necessary.

Use the same color thread in the bobbin as on top and it won't show.

According to the owner's manual for this machine, it says NOT to use
pre-wound bobbins. I have the same machine and never had a tension problem,
since I stopped using cheap thread. I use a good quality bobbin thread, and
wind 10 or so at a time to have ready.
I started off by using serger thread, but it was too fuzzy. I use spun poly,
but it's a much better quality than the cheap cones of serger thread. I paid
around $12 for a huge 18,000 meter spool.

Like Pat who also replied to this thread, I use the NEB prewound bobbins in
my Brother 180D (same machine, except with Disney designs). Until I started
using NEBS I had this problem all the time. After NEBS, no more problem,
and I have used the machine heavily over the past year. However, if you
don't want to do this, the best alternate option is to get lingerie thread
(Nancy's Notions and other places sell it) and use this for bobbin thread.
