I just bought the Janome 5700 sewing/embrodiery machine. Couldn't
afford anything else. The embrodiery cards are expensive and someone
told me about The Amazing Box where you can download and get less
expensive images. Does anyone have this product and if so does it work
well? Would you recommend it? Also, any ideas on where it could be
found cheap? I've seen it for about $250.00.

Finally, does anyone have the Janome 5700 and can pass along some tips
on the machine? It's a little intimidating especially for a seasoned
sewing person such as my self. I hope this was the right decision and
I won't have buyer's remorse.

Thanks for your help!

I have the Kenmore 19001, which is very close to the Janome 5700. I have
the Janome Memory Craft Reader/Writer. It came with Customizer 2000. Not
the greatest digitizing software, but it does the job. I also have
BuzzTools which will convert most all other sewing formats to whatever
machine you have. Right now, I must have about 4000 - 5000 files that I
have downloaded from the net, and if you were to buy all those on their
cards, it does get expensive.
I don't know about the amazing box, but maybe some1 else out there can tell
you about that.
good luck Rose

I have had my 5700 for 2 years now and have really enjoyed using it for both
clothing construction and embroidery embellishments. I make about half of
my children's clothes (ages 5 and 3) and embellish the rest, as well as,
make and embellish things for other family members and special friends.
Hopefully, the place you bought it from will provide some sort of training
on it. The shop where I bought mine offered a class that taught us about how
the machine works and how to set it up for various functions. They even
gave us ideas on what to do with all those fancy stitches. I also think
Janome has a work book that you can buy that will cover similar things.

The embroidery cards are expensive, but I've gotten several of mine as
birthday, Christmas, and Mother's day gifts. I have the Customizer 2000
which comes with a Reader/Writer so I am able to download free designs to
use with my machine. I think Janome has something called Scan -n- Sew PC
that also comes with a Reader/Writer and I think it is less expensive than
the Customizer. Check with your Janome dealer or the Janome website. I
don't know anything about the Amazing Box. The extras I have for my machine
I've acquired slowly. I recently downloaded Embird Plus so I would be able
to convert free designs that are in other formats.

If you have any other questions regarding your 5700 I would be willing to
help where I could.

I bought a janome 5700 in March. It came with a card reader/writer and
the software to enable me to do my own designs but it's a bit primitive.
(or maybe I'm not a very good drawer!)

I have also invested in Embird from Balarad which will convert designs
from one format to another so now I can download free designs from the
internet and convert them to work on the janome.

There is a Janome 5700 group on Yahoo.

you can still use the Memory Craft Scan-N-Sew, which has a little handheld
scanner built into it, so you can scan 3x4 pictures that you want to
digitize to embroider. it probably is less expensive, but the Reader/Writer
is well worth it for me. Do a search out there for used equipment also, I
seem to recall someplace out there offers part of its web space to ppl that
want to sell their used equipment.

The Janome 5700 uses the same blank cards as the 9000. They are still
available.

I have had my machine for about 18 months and find it easy to use. I bought
this instead of the 9000 not only for the price difference but at the time I
already had 2 children with another due shortly and did not think I would
find the time to use the 9000 to its full advantage with the patchwork
functions. I do not regret my decision. The 5700 is great.

I suspect you are a day late and a dollar short.

You may want to take note of the fact that the original message was
posted 14+ years ago.

I have owned a janome 5700 for about 20 yrs and love it. I also have the card reader-writer and it is excellent. I do not buy cards. I joined an embroidery sight on line, DKembroidery for $8.00 a month and have access to 100's of designs that I simply transfer to my card and use. The program on the machine will empty an old design from your card and transfer the new one each time you want to create something new. With this site you also just choose your format so there is no converting necessary. Our format is SEW. . good luck.

Do you use an older computer to hook your card writer to? Are you using the original software? An info would be helpful.

Hey all! I've been looking for a sewing machine to start learning on and I have a chance to buy a used Janome 5700 for under $100. Would you guys recommend this older machine over any of the newer machines? My budget is less than $150 and I don't know if it is worth it to buy a high end machine that is 20 yrs old or a low end machine that is new.
Thanks!
Josh

Here is one review:
http://bestsewingmachine.net/sewing-machine-reviews/janome-memory-craft-5700

Disclaimer: I own and use three 56-year-old Singer 401As for my
"real" sewing/ The first one I bought brand new in 1961, and I have
added two identical used machine over the years. My opinion is that
older, sturdy, well built machines are better than newer plastic
miracles. I do not know anything about the Janome 5700

About 15 years ago, I bought a new Singer Quantum XL5/6000 for
embroidery. It can be set up to do normal sewing as well, but I
have never used it for that. I have never regretted buying the
XL5/6000, but the cost was WELL above your budget.

Could you by any chance measure the thickness of the card you put in the Janome 5700? I bought a PCMCIA card to transfer my designs to the machine and it seems to be too fat to fit in the slot properly, the machine can't read it. I am trying to find someone with one of the memory cards to tell me the size as I don't have any of them myself. Very frustrating that I can't get to use it :-( Thanks Kim

I have a 5700 and have had it a long time. I have a card that you can download patterns on. You can go to Embroidery Library Designs and down load any the designs they have is sew format, as well as any other design sites. I prefer them because all their designs stitch out perfectly.
