Plug ins for Embird 2003 include:
Embrid Studio:
digitize embroidery designs up to 45 x 45 centimeters (17.7 x 17.7")
Uses Vector format
Sufmato Stitch: program for creating multicolor designs from photos.
Embird Font Engine . TrueType and OpenType fonts-into-embroidery
conversion program
Iconizer: displays embroidery files instead of Windows icons. It
helps you organize your designs
Machine Cross Stitch: design of cross stitch patterns

This set of software is constantly being improved, to see the latest
in supported formate and extra features added go to the web page.
This is the most complete semi commercial set of software that I have
seen on the market yet. It is also a reasonable price and help is
just an e-mail away. Tutorials are available free on the web page. I
prefer this over my Wilcom, Originas any of the new Pfaff stuff and
all of the viking pieces, PED, and Designers Gallery. No affiliation
just a good product. and cheap compared to the others.

Hi Hanna's Mom,

I d/l the demo, but my wife has a Husqvarna Designer 1 which uses SHV files
and as far as I can see Embird cannot write SHV files. It is a very cool

Someone sent me a note (I think by mistake, it was supposed to go to this
NG) that D1 takes HUS files as well. Can you try and check it?

according the the sales manager at my local shop, all the Husqvarna/Vikings
can do HUS. I also have just gotten Husqvarna's newest software (3D
embroidery studio) and the software recommends saving files in .vp3 format
(whatever that is, I've only just gotten it loaded and started to fiddle
with it, I'll probably be taking the store's free classes soon as they have
one set up for this software (if I take it right now I'd have to take the
VIP class, and 3D is supposedly an upgrade for VIP)

Well, that will certainly be good news to my wife, but I really doubt that
it's true. The owner of the store where she bought it said SHV only!

I certainly will check and get back to you all :-)

thanks for the tip.. maybe

It would surprice me very much if a Designer couldn't take Husqvarnas own
format HUS!!! Looking at their web site were you can buy designs they don't
even offer SHV! They offer HUS and VIP as Husqvarna/Viking formats!
Let us know what you find out please!!

The new software is more integrated than the VIP package, and
there are some added functions, but it basically works the
same as VIP. If you were able to use the VIP software, you
should have no trouble working with the 3D package. Vp3 is the
default design format for the new software. It also handles
(loads and saves in) a number of other formats.

The HV Disk Manager program formats floppy disks with 4 menus
and converts HUS files to SHV format for use on a Designer 1.
It also adds any control files needed by the machine. The
Designer 1 does not read HUS files.

It is possible to obtain designs on the internet in SHV
format. Generally you will get a zipped file that, when
unzipped, sets up the required menus and control files needed
to use the designs on a D-1.

Consider yourself surprised! The D1 uses a specially formatted floppy
disk that contains a number of proprietary menu and indexing files in a
rigid tree structure, at the bottom of which are the SHV design files.

.HUS is the native format for the software, and the "Disk Manager"
program is required for the creation of these floppies.

Herb,

Thanks for the confirmation. We have been struggling for a year with these
stupid SHV formatted floppies and I sure would have been surprised if we
could have been using HUS all that time :-)

If our Husqvarna dealer had explained how the SHV system worked, I doubt
very much if my wife would have bought a Designer 1. It's an IDIOTIC
system!!!!!

After spending $7500 (we are in Canada) on the machine they turn around and
tell you that the software to write SHV floppies will cost another $700.

ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, never had a chance to use the VIP. Just bought my machine about 3
weeks ago, and had to order the software, as my local shop was out of stock
all all but one software title. So, I splurged a little and got "the latest
and greatest" package. They said that the "software is so new that we
haven't actually got a class set up for it yet, buy <you> could take the VIP
class and get the basics of the new software". They offer free lifetime
classes on any machine (and accessories) that they sell, so it's not like
I'd be limited to only ONE class on using the software. I just haven't
finished tinkering enough to start figuring out what I haven't figured out
how to do and what I would want out of the classes yet. My hubby is a
computer geek, so most of the straight up technical stuff I have help "in
house" for.....he was highly amused to see the dongle, says that physical
locks for software are pretty uncommon anymore...and then gave me the "don't
ever lose that thing" speech *grin*

Thanks so much for listing all this info!

I would add just two things. The new Embird Version 4, I
think it is, has added .csd - the format used by the
POEM/Singer EU.

A digitizing program not listed is WinDaisy, which is
available in a shareware form for non-professionals, but
the shareware is exactly the same as the professional
version with the exception of the size of the files that
can be accessed.

Aha, that exlains it!
Do you get this with the machine, free download or does it cost lots of $$
to buy?
It's great but not cheap machine, so it would be good to know!

That is EXPENSIVE!!!!

Absolutely!!!! I had no idea it would cost do much just to get files on
readable floppies!! I thought that with a floppy drive you'd just download
and go. Guess I was soooo wrong!!!
