I've been trying to access the cypherpunk's ftp site without success.
What's the story?

Don't know what the story is, but you can access the mirror of it on:

ftp://idea.sec.dsi.unimi.it/pub/security/cypherpunks/

(I may have the directory structure wrong, it's from memory)

This also has advantages for those outside the US who wouldn't want to
put the people at berkeley under possible risk for aiding allowing the
export of crypto.
