Does anyone know how to go about removing the dask on the passenger side
of a 1992 ford probe? I am planning to install by alarm braing
somewhere in that area but i don't want to just start tearing apart the
dash. thanks in advance.

Let me this is a BITCH... You cannot remove simply _half_ of the dash.
It's all or nothing baby. Take a look at the HAYNES repair manuel (drop
the $14.00 if ain't got: indespensable, Chilton's has no real pictures) It
will instruct you to remove the panel in the center of the dash where the
trip computer display sits (if so equiped), then remove the computer.
Behind this is one of the 5 dash bolts. (Remove the bolt) The ohter four
boults which hold the upper dash in place are on either side near the
doors. After this you will have to tear down the center console to gain
acces to the two bolts which anchor the supporting center cluster (where
the radio is housed) to the cnetwer hump. From there the Haynes manuel
instructs you to remove the instrument cluster (follow thier instructions
to the T !) From ther you can CAREFULLY (with assistance) pull the whole
dash up while rotating towards the rear of the car. From there you have a
splended view of your fire wall and whole lot of worries about reassembly
headaches (which are well warrented) My advice here is simply to give you
a general OVERVIEW. You will have to remove various dash panels to get at
the main bolts which support the dash. As I sais grab the Haynes manuel
and follow it religiously. Total time for me (a VERY experienced
do-it-yourself-er) was 3 hours dissasembly and antoher three for
reassembly. My advice is if you don't ABSOLUTELY have to do this than
SPARE YOURSELF. You can just remove some of the panels under the steering
column closter and zip tie the thing to something up there. No one looks
for brains anymore to disable the alarm so don't worry about being bullet
proof. Most alarms are programmed such that even if you remove the brain
the car is by default not startable, as the alarm completes the circuit,
thus ripping out the alram only worsens the theifs potential.
Well, hope that helped... good luck and let me know how it turned out. If
you need any ohter advice I know this car soup to nuts. (I'm the damn nerd
that took the dash apart for FUN....)
Best Regards,
-Seth
Buy a Chiltons manual. They go into detail on how to remove the dash.
