I'd be careful advertising all that stuff. I just got a "request" for
300 2W-BA's from some guy in California. The guy even gave me three
credit card numbers to pay for them and instructed us to process the
card payments immediately so he could send FEDEX around to pick up the
stuff. When I emailed him to advise that we only process orders of this
kind through Paypal, he cancelled. :-(
Since he was "kind" enough to provide a delivery address and phone
number, I thought I'd pass all that on to the RCMP who also just emailed
me that since he's working out of California, they've forwarded
everything on to the FBI. "Knock-knock". :-)
We get those all the time, Frank. I used to pass it along to local
authorities where the orders were supposed to be shipped, as well as the FBI.
When nothing was done about several "repeat offenders" I just gave up. Now we
simply delete the requests. Virtually all of them are addresses of freight
forwarders or hotels.

So what's the deal? If we'd processed the cards (and they turned out to
be stolen), wouldn't the transaction be denied? He gave me the CRV
numbers, expiry dates and the name on the cards. Doesn't this mean that
he's actually in possession of the cards? Still and all, I am glad we
insisted on using Paypal to process this transaction. There was
obviously something not quite right about the whole thing.
Thanks for the warning Frank. I have been up to speed on those old scams
for many years. I just forward them to the FBI when they come in. I had
one guy in Brooklyn that tried it. From what I understand, he is serving
7-10 right now for credit card & mail fraud.
Jim Rojas
Yeah... and he more than likely had his trial within a month of his
arrest.
In Canada, it would have taken about a year and a half (to come to
trial). His trial would have lasted about three weeks, and he would
have gotten a six month conditional sentence and been "credited" with
time served (in remand). The legal system (in Canada) really sucks!!
He probably had multiple counts and copped a plea. That is the American
way. Sometimes it's smarter to take a little jail time, in order not to
serve concurrent sentences...
Saw a case on Law $ Order the other day. The guy sold bogus medical
vaccines...he decided to role the dice with a jury. 16 people died
because of what he did. He was found guilty on all 16 counts, and was
given 15 years per count...a plea bargain would had been his best option
there.
Jim Rojas
If you process an order and the card turns out to be stolen the real owner of
the card will eventually notice the transaction and file a chargeback request.
Your credit card processor will take the money back from your bank account and
you will then be left trying to find the perpetrator... in Sudan or someplace
like it.
> He gave me the CRV numbers, expiry dates and the name on the cards. Doesn't
> this mean that he's actually in possession of the cards?
Not necessarily. He may have cracked some website's security and stolen not
only the cc# and expiration dates but even the CVV2 code. Many sites,
including ours, do not retain the CVV2 code. The data is sent from the
encrypted page directly to the CC processor and is not recorded locally. This
helps reduce fraud but it doesn't stop it entirely.
> Still and all, I am glad we insisted on using Paypal to process this

PayPal is no more secure than Auth.net or any of the other processors.
I think you mean consecutive.

Isn't that show fiction? In real life he'd probably have gotten 3-5 with time
off for good behavior.
