I am considering purchasing an Apex Destiny 6100 Alarm Panel. Is there
anyone out there that uses this panel? If so, I would like to hear your
comments (good & bad) about this panel. My application includes the
typical home security stuff using about 12 to 14 hardwired zones, and
two or three keypads. I plan to use the serial RS-232 module to log
alarm & sensor events on a PC. I plan to use the device to call my cell
phone and another landline phone on alarm conditions (i.e. no third
party monitoring). My main area of interest is in the area of remote
phone access, remote listen-in functions and local/remote voice
announcements. I may also use 1 or 2 TS16 temperature sensors. I will
also use the unit for some basic home automation functions using the
optional 8 relay output card and possibly X10. I am a DIY, but was
involved in the industrial alarm industry about 15 years ago.

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Jerry.

I don't use the Apex regularly, but have installed a few in the late 5/6
years. They are a little bit more difficult to program, especially if you
are not familiar with it. Before you buy one, I'd suggest that you make sure
that you can also obtain the software necessary to program the system. I
know of a couple of local installers who swear by the Apex line and have no
complaints.

You will find that there is one ass***e here by the name of Bass, who once
used one of these panels a number of years ago and wasn't able to figure out
how to make it work. So he still blames the manufacturer for it and derides
the panel. His main reason for doing this is so that he can sell you some of
the other equipment that he has on his website.

Take warning, the guy is a scam artist and is reported to be a felon and
operating a business with out a license. Although appearing nice to people
such as you, who come here asking questions, he's also tends to be very
nasty if you don't do things his way. A slick con artist. Take heed.

By the way, Apex is owned by Ademco .

I installed a number of them a few years ago after Ademco bought them out. I
had more trouble with them than any other system we ever tried. We replaced
more than 50% of the hardware, sometimes replacing one component more than
once. Though I will never use them again, I still maintain links to the
hardware in case someone who already owns one needs a part.

The other side of this is that it's been several years since I worked on an
Apex system. It is *possible* that they have improved them since. Heaven
knows they could not have made them any worse. There are a couple of
contributors to this forum who swear by Apex, so it *may* not be as bad. For
me personally, the risk associated with selling this hardware is just too
great.

Boy, that's the long way around saying you don't know anything about

Hm........I have installed a number of them myself. I find them to be a
excellent panel.
The only thing that I found annoying was the programming and the feedback that
came with it. Then I learned to deactivate the nuisance sound until I needed
to activate it. In any event, RLB, I wonder if you really understood that
panel.

Unless the panel was mounted at his Parole Officer's place Bass probable
never had an opportunity to even see one.

We do whole house solution that include HA, security, video, voice, data
etc. We looked at the Apex line as a lower cost alternative to some of the
voice feedback HA systems we use in conjunction with security panels. Not
really impressed.

Given the level of integration you seek with a PC, HAI Omni may be a better
choice. (www.homeauto.com ). Judging from your post you are looking at
DIY. HAI allows (sells actually) dealer style S/W for end users and
provides end user support. It is available from the usual list of online
vendors that support DIY and HA, including www.bass-home.com and
www.worthdist.com

Make sure you are looking at the 6100AN not the 6100. The AN supports the
pager and cell links.
