Could anyone give me some information on a possible item that I am looking
for?

This Alarm is what I would call a "proximity Alarm".

Not sure whether I have the right definition for it but the purpose of this
device
would be to prevent the owner from loosing small items such as portable
phones, keys etc.

The alarm would consist of two devices it, one attached to the item you
want to protect
and the other carried on you so that if you went away forgetting your item,
this would automatically
trigger a sound.

The item would be very small and affordable.

Thanks in advance

There was one around designed to let you know if you lots your kids.

One unit was strapped to the kid, the other carried by the parent.

if the kid went outside a 3metre range the parents unit would make a sound.

This may be useful. I can't remember the name of the product.

Of course, if you don't mind a wire going between the cellphone and the unit
on you then this would not be a problem, just a battery, piezo and a relay
would do the trick - ie when wire (or wires) becomes disconnected then the
piezo would sound.

This could be mounted nicely in a small plastic box. It would be inexpensive
too.

Yes...thought that would be great...carry a receiver on your belt.
Like a pager.. Vibrates or bells. And then attach a transmitter to
each of your items. (Cell, Pager, Palm Pilot, etc). Goes off if you
get too far from it.

nope..thought of it too a while ago..but hadn't seen it :-(
