hi,

I just bought a house from the bank (you know the guy couldn't pay
anymore...)
and obviously, he didn't give the master code to the bank,
so is there a way to reset the panel, cause the alarm compagny wants
to charge me 55$ to change it, and i don't it's right, cause it's MY panel!

anyway!

Is there a way to reset everything in that ...
(i know i will have to reprogram everything)

Thanks.

Yes there is a way to reset it but most alarmco's a) don't know how to
do it and b) the others wont share this information with someone
outside the industry. It may very well be your panel but it's the
same as any other item in your house. If YOU can't get it to work,
you're going to have to fix it yourself or get someone else to come
and fix it for which, the average tradesman will demand compensation.
You have an out if you want monitoring. Most alarm companies will
deprogram it or replace the mother board in exchange for a monitoring
agreement which will cost you substantially more than $55.

Do you have an install manual?
If not e-mail me and I'll forward you one- if so the procedure is in it-
little hard to find but it'll do you a world of long term good to read the
manual anyway.

First, the $55 fee is not out of line. However, I'm sure that if you call a few
alarm companies in your area you will find one that will come to your house,
reset the codes, provide you a homeowners manual and demonstrate the system to
you. You really need all of this to help prevent false alarms.

You should have the system monitored. Most alarm companies will even replace
the control panel if necessary to get the monitoring.

I disagree with those company who lock the system
of their own client...
it's like if your mecanics put a lock on your hood, and he tells you
that you have to come back to him, if not, you pay another hood!

How Stupid is that!
That's our alarm system, and it's like if they break it if you want
to change company!

I 'kinda' agree with you Pascal. I don't totally. An alarm system is very
different from a car. Should you (for instance) screw up your programming
and cause false alarms to be sent to the wrong address who pays the fines?
Usually the CS (monitoring company) wouldn't even know where to look.
A few years back I went to a DIY job to add some equipment the guy couldn't
add himself. We put the system on test, he was being monitored, and sent
signals. The account code he had given me was not in his system- it was in
a system in another state. Many dispatches later-
After that I never work on a system I can't gain access to.
Another time- a local store was having alarms every night at 3:00AM. I was
tasked to see what the problem was. My boss (I worked for someone at that
time) expected me to sit at the store and see what was causing the alarms.
Instead I got panel access and discovered a programming error was causing
the problem.
The keypad was near the front door and above a small table- the code to
program was the default. I suppose someone sat there at lunch one day and
fooled around with programming.
Point being, if you work on your car and screw it up you pay to fix it. If
someone screws up programming in an alarm system who pays and who suffers?
Jake-
Ps. I sent you the manuals :-)
I called to verify signals

Which code are you talking about? To reprogram the panel so it is not
locked should not be charged to you because you have no contract with
the installing company. "Unlocking" programming is different than
providing a master code -- it would allow anyone to make program
changes.

To provide the master code requires time on the part of the service
company. The master code allows you to change codes, not change
programming. If the panel has been unlocked by the installing
company, anyone can enter programming and make changes.

The installing company should unlock the panel at no charge. You then
can call (and pay) any alarm company to change the master code or
reprogram the master code yourself.

The default master code of the PC-5010 (Power832) is 5010. If this
fails, the installing company has changed it. In that case, they
should download the system with the default code. They do not need to
default the system. Only the dealer programming access code needs to
be defaulted. This does not require a service visit if the panel is
properly connected to the phone line. It can be done by modem in a
few minutes.

If the installing firm refuses to co-operate with the client at all,
he should file a complaint with his state's Department of Consumer
Protection. In some states alarm contractors' licenses are handled
through this department.

If the gentleman wants, he can replace the control panel. The cost of
the replacement board is minimal. It comes with the programming and
installation manuals. I carry the DSC in my Bass Home Electronics
online store at http://www.Bass-Home.com

Robert,

If you just bought a house at auction, spring the $55 bucks out of your
wallet, and have the darn thing serviced. You can default the panel with
ease however. Do you service fuel oil burners...?? I need one mine wanted
$55 bucks to check my burner.

Another tired alarm guy who will not provide service to the DIY'r!

You should consider the fact that the fellow said he bought the home at
foreclosure auction. If the previous owner couldn't pay for his home,
perhaps he couldn't live up to obligations with the alarmco, perhaps it was
a low / $0 down system that they locked until the subs minimum agreement was
fulfilled and since it wasn't fulfilled, the system remains locked and
abandoned.

Furthermore, the alarmcos responsibility would lay with the original sub
anyway, and as such the new owners claim would lay with the previous owner.
If you buy a home and find the furnace doesn't work, your complaint lies
with the seller not the furnace installer (unless a warranty was
transferred).

Obviously the alarmco hasn't handled the situation tactfully, and should
have better explained why they are wanting to charge a fee to unlock it,
however I doubt there is anything that can be done since he didn't purchase
it himself. I'd bite the bullet and buy a new board which is probably going
to be a newer version and it won't cost much more than the $55 they want to
unlock it.

Pascal- I thought you had a 5010/832
If so, then please read:

5.31 Default (Factory)
On occasion it may be necessary to default the main control panel or one of
the modules that can be
connected. There are several different defaults available including
defaulting the main control panel,
Escort5580 module, PC5132 Wireless Expander Module, PC5400 Printer module
and LINKS2X50 module.
Note: Defaulting the main panel does not default the keypads. Please refer
to "Programming
LCD5500Z Keypads" in the Programming Worksheets for defaulting the LCD5500Z.
PC55XXZ LED
keypads must be manually reprogrammed in installers section [000].
5.31.1 Factory Default Main Panel (Hardware)
Step 1 - Remove AC and battery from the panel.
Step 2 - Remove all wires from the Zone 1 and PGM1 terminals.
Step 3 - With a piece of wire short the Zone 1 terminal to the PGM1
terminal.
Step 4 - Apply AC power to the main panel.
Step 5 - When Zone Light 1 is lit on the keypad the default is complete.
Step 6 - Remove AC power from the control
Step 7 - Reconnect all original wiring and power up the control.
AC power must be used to power the panel. The panel will not default if the
battery is used.
5.31.2 Factory Default Main Panel (Software) and other Modules
Step 1 - Enter the Installer Programming mode. Step 3 - Enter the Installer
Code.
Step 2 - Enter Program Section [XXX]. Step 4 - Enter Program Section [XXX]
again.
The panel will take a few seconds to perform the default. When the keypad is
again operational the default
is complete.

I don't where the +5V comes from. Probably an -undocumented' method.
Follow the instructions- if the panel can be unlocked it will unlock and be
very useable.

The default master code for the 5010 is 1234, you may be thinking of the
default installer's code which is 5010.

It's not exactly clear if this panel is locked out, if the installers code has
been changed or the new owner just doesn't have the master code. If the master
code is changed it was probably the previous owner and the original installing
company is under no obligation to download or otherwise restore that code.

Why? The installing company may have done nothing wrong, their only "crime"
may be not wanting to provide a free service call.

Thanks, Doug. You are right. I was thinking of the installer code.
Also, you are correct that the installing company does not have to do
the service for free. I should have thought about that a little more
before chiming in. I stand corrected on two counts. :)

There is no EEPROM pin on a 5010, that is for the older 1550, 2550 and 3000
panels only
