After reviewing my contract with ADT I found that my original three year
obligation is a couple months from expiring. I also found that the contract
states that it will automatically renew for two years unless I contact them
in writing! I don't think I want to be tied to them for another two years.
The contract also states that they retain ownership of the equipment, if they
really want to remove a 3 year old Moose Z1100E I guess they can have it
(Along with the EOLR's installed at the panel (;o). It sounds like they have
some proprietary hooks in it, and I don't know if anyone else would/could
monitor it. Regardless of whether they decide to pull they're equipment, I
think I will be replacing it with a Napco Gemini system and CyberHouse
software. The Gemini seems to have one of the most robust home automation
interfaces when run with an automation program such as CyberHouse. Since I
work for a PC manufacturer, I have several computers lying around that could
be used as a dedicated CyberHouse/home server.

With regards to the Gemini system:
- What is the difference between the 3200 and 9600 besides the 32/96 zone and
the 2/8 areas capabilities?

- I assume one area (partition?) can be setup for security and another for
automation sensors, does anyone forsee a need for more than two areas in a
typical residential environment?

- Do they both have equal support/capabilities when integrated with
CyberHouse?

- It sounds like the firmware is not software upgradeable (i.e. FLASH EEPROM)
is this true?

- I've presently wired a pre-alarm (warning) buzzer in an out building (where
no keypad resides) in case we enter while the system is armed we can go to
the house and disarm it. Can one of the Gemini relay/lug outputs can be
programmed for this function?

- Do the hardwired zone expansion modules reside in the controller cabinet or
are they mounted externally?

- Can the 4 zone expansion in the Custom keypad be disabled? ( I don't think I
would be able to use them in my retrofit, and I would prefer all zones be
hardwired at the cabinet.)

When I mean disabled, I mean that they no longer take up 4 of the 32 available
zones on a 3200.

Any additional feedback/comments also welcome.

Thanks,
Todd Houg - thoug at uswest.net

Yes.

External Relay(s) can be programmed for "Entry Relay Area x" (x: 1-2/8)

They are designed for external use (they come with plastic enclosures); they
can be mounted inside the enclosure but there is little room and no mounting
points specifically designed for them.

Yes, simply program it (in Keypad) as "Address 00".
