Can anyone tell me why I would want to get an home security system in
Los Angeles? It seems like their new proposed policy will allow them
to lower the priority of or even ignore my alarm.

Wouldn't I be more of a target for criminals if they knew I had an
alarm system?

Not been funny but thats the way it is in the UK and has been for a long
time. Half of the time when we phone the cops from our control room they
wont go to the call because it isn't a 'verified alarm'

So whats new. The police departments have be prioritizing calls for years. This
isn't just an LA policy. Miami has same day response if your lucky.

No. Because the criminal still does not like working in an environment of
uncertainty. He would still rather break into somewhere that doesn't have an
alarm system. I am not saying that places with systems never get broken into,
but the burglar doesn't know what other provisions you have made for response.
Their adrenaline and stress level is high enough without adding the uncertainty
that someone may or maynot respond.

Well, Perhaps you should consider the benefits of being proactive in securing
your business or family from the elements. Remember, the police are not
"your" personal body guards. People seem to think they are . Police usually
are only dispatched to crime scenes, etc. Cival issues aside, the police are
notified (pre alarm days) when a crime actually was committed. Ninety percent
of the burglaries are solved by investigative techniques, Murders, Rapes, etc.
None are caught in the act! If they are its rare indeed. So, to answer your
question, an alarm system could save your life should you be targeted for a
home invasion, etc. Alarm systems are merely a tool to assist us in protecting
our selves. Now, for Fire? Well, you get the point.

Rodney has the right idea. One thing you can do is ask a guard service to
respond. Cost depends on where you live.

I have always thought that the most important thing a security detection
panel can do it that it signals fire alarm signals. I know that in most
cases a burglar only get about $3000.00 as an average. Fire on the other
hand can cost everything you own and family member their lives. This is
what we stress when meeting with a new customer.
