I have a DSC PC-1550 that came with a house we purchased. I turned on the
beep feature so that when doors opened the keypad would beep alerting us
that one of our young ones was pening the door. The problem is that the
keypad also beeps when anyone or thing passes the motion detector. How do I
bypass this??

In order to decide when to beep and when not to beep (sounds almost
Shakespearean, eh?) the system differentiates between "interior" and
"perimeter" type devices. In other words, the system is supposed to beep
the keypads only when a door or window opens -- not when you walk in front
of a motion detector or set off a glass break detector, etc.

Apparently, this has not been set properly for the "zone" (protective
circuit) to which the motion detector is connected. There are two ways to
deal with this annoyance. You can either bypass the motion detector when
you are at home (with the system off) or you can reprogram the zone as an
"interior" zone. The zone must be programmed as either a "type 2: interior"
or "type 3: interior home/away" loop. This and the method for programming
the system is explained on page 10 of the installation manual for your
system. If you do not have an installation manual I will be happy to supply
you with it.

Before you decide to start programming your system there are a few things to
consider. First, if the system's programming access code has been changed
from the factory default (which you will find in the manual), you will need
to either obtain the current code from the installer or default the panel
and start over. Starting over is not impossible but it is also no mean
feat. Don't jump into it unless you are fairly sure you understand the
procedures involved.

There's another alternative. If you know the programming access code, you
can call or e-mail me (catch me in a good mood). I can reprogram the system
for you via modem from my office. Let me know if you want the manual and/or
if you'd like some assistance.

That feature is typically called "chime" and DSC has a method to "toggle" it on
and off different ways for differnt panels. However you can try the following
keystroke : *4 while the system is disarmed. If this does not help try calling
your local alarm installation company. They will be glad to help you

Mark,

The DSC PC-1550 will chime on all zones configured as perimeter or
entry/exit. Your motion detector either occupies a zone not properly
configured or has been placed on a perimeter zone withe other devices if the
former is true the zone with the motion on it needs to be programed with a
zone type 02 or 03 in location [11]. if the latter is true then the device
will have to be moved to another zone, disconected, lived-with or turn the
chime feature off.
I am however assuming that the following are true, you know the
installers code, you are comfortable with installer level programing, you
possess a product installation manual. If not I suggest you either seek the
original installing vendor or other local proffesional help.

Good Luck

*4 will not work on the 1550. it is *6( master code),6 to toggle the chime off
and on.
and the poster was correct about wether your motions are set for interior or
perimeter.

Your motion must be on a delay zone - The panel is recognizing any
zone programmed delay, and will beep.... Follower or instant will fix
the motion, or you could fool around with the pgm output. LJ

Changing the zone to instant will not stop the keypad beeping, since the 1550
will chime on any perimeter zone, delay or instant.
Changing the zone to an interior loop will stop the beeping.

I wouldn't recomend using the PGM output to work around this, although I
suppose you could set the PGM output to "System Status" and use the output to
physically shunt the motion when the system is disarmed. This may work if the
motion is tied in with some perimeter doors on the same zone, if this is the
case you would be better off seperating the motion from the doors. IMHO

Bypassing the zone will disable the beeping also, but you run the risk of
forgetting to unbypass the zone when you arm the system.
