Megapixel vs TVL

[proguard]

Is there any comparison table to compare megapixels with tv lines?
i.e. how much tv lines are a 2 megapixel camera etc. I know they are 2
different technologies but i' m wondering if we can compare them in
that way.

The only easy comparison is the price tag.

Think of this way. The same view on both.

This is maximum TV Lines

The size may be off a bit but you should get the idea.

Rather than TV lines look at it from resolution.

Not sure about the exact numbers but something like.

This reminds me of an old joke.

There were two young men who were brought before a judge for the first
time for minor drug related crimes. Trying to be lenient, he gave them
each a task to preform. He told them that he wanted them to go out to
all their friends and as many young people that they could and
convince them to not do drugs and get them to sign a list and report
back to him in 30 days. When 30 days passed the two young men came
back to the judge and he asked them how many names they had secured.
The first young man showed the judge a list of 35 people. The judge
asked how he had convinced the people to sign the list. He said, I
drew a large circle and a small circle on a piece of paper and
pointing to the large circle I told them, this is your brain before
you take drugs and pointing to the small circle I told them this is
your brain after you take drugs. The judge said good job. Asking the
second young man how many people he had got to sign the list the young
man said 750 people. The judge was amazed. How did you ever get so
many people to sign your list. The young man said ... well, I drew a
small circle and a large circle on a piece of paper and pointing to
the small circle I said if you take drugs and go to prison, this is
your ass hole before you go to prison and pointing to the large
circle ......... this is your ass hole when you get out.

For those of you still looking for an answer, here it is. In terms of how cameras are marketed to the consumer market, it is common place to equate 1 megapixel to 1000TVL. Manufacturers are increasingly using this convention. So 1.3MP is 1300TVL.

At the moment of this reply, I have not seen anyone quote 2MP as 2000TVL.
