Is there to be a "big three" in equipment manufacturers now with each
dabbling in distribution & installation? It's kind of ironic, GE getting
into the security industry, because I was under the impression that they
would sell Honeywell's security unit if the merger had been approved.

I see TYCO claims to be the #1 provider of CCTV equipment in the world with
Philips, Pelco & Panasonic more or less tied for #2. Vicon & Ultrak haven't
fared well lately and may be up-for-grabs soon, who knows!

Where do you all think this is headed. I also wonder about the fallout with
vender/manufacturer/distributor/installer relationships weaving in and out
of different competitors. Makes my head spin!

I personally don't think that manufacturing, distribution and installation
should be held by a single entity, but this is the land of the free and
that's what sets us apart from the socialists, communists and dictatorships
etc.

If the Gov't placed oppressive restrictions on how we do business, would the
U.S.A. be as powerful as it is now & where would technology be now?

I love this industry!

Big Three ... OK I don't claim to be an industry expert but

GE - GBC,FiberOptions,Kalatel,Caddx,Sentrol,Aritech,ITI,CSI-Rusco
TYCO - ADT,Ansul,Simplex,Sonitrol,Software House

How does Tyco claim to be #1 in CCTV, I thought TYCO's companies
were mainly systems / monitoring / installation / fire ?

Who does Honeywell own besides First Alert ?

I guess I wasn't aware of the distribution side of the big three ?

Thanks for any education guys. CB

Every big company claims to be "Number One." It's just hype. It makes no
difference whether they are number one, two or thirty-six.

Wow .. thanks for the education Jim ... I also now realize that
Honeywell bought Pittway and got the whole Ademco Group thing ...

these are big mother companies !

since Honeywell Home and Building Control is a $5 B company I
guess Sensormatic ($1 B) and similar are the next tier down ... CB

Did I miss it or did some one mention that ADT/TYCO also owns Honeywell

Well, they do.

That's right, they (TYCO) did buy Honeywell Canada, as well as Honeywell
Australia a couple of years ago! I think ADT got P1, Great Britain also
(along with every third British Alarm Company in existence).
