I recently installed a DSC 832 and am getting a low amount of "noise"
(or a quiet alarm sound) from the Horn. Has anyone else experienced
this? What did you do to correct it?

Would putting a load resistor (1K Ohms?) across Bell+ to Bell- quiet the
horn?

Thanks

Art

I've had Hall effect type monitored maglocks produced enough back emf to
generate noise at a sounder. We just replaced the locks with reed switch
type but you can fit suitably rated capacitors across the horn to quieten
it. Ideally you need to trace the source-probably from something motorised
but it could even be a voltage induced from a power line running parallel to
one of your cables. Enjoy the hunt!

Mark.

Place a 1K ohm resistor in parallel with the siren circuit. That will
take care of your problem.

1k Resistor across the siren, for some reason older versions of PC5010's
would do that on occasion

Please attach an EOL resistor to the bell output terminals. The panel
passes a low current through those terminals to supervise the siren. The
resistor will silence the low noise you're hearing. There's a package of
the proper resistors included with the panel.

Now he has EOL resistors in his stock, too (and a lot of wire...)

Rsistor will do the trick... Have had this happen with Napco panels using a
piezo sounder instead of a conventional siren speaker also.

That means your HOrn is not polarized. Pot a diod in line of the + that will
cure it

Place an EOL resistor across the "bell" outputs in parallel to the siren or
driver and all will be well.

Just a note: this EOL must be at the siren, to ensure bell circuit
supervision. The hum heard without resistor is due to the siren being
sensitive to the supervisory voltage.

As RLB said, but a resistor across bell + and -
DO NOT do the diode thing!
And besides, this thread is ANCIENT, so vista why bring it up again now when
many people have already answered?

And also, why do people not read manuals? It is in the FAQ somewhere - "What
to do if my siren makes soft alarm noise" or somesuch.

I have never tried the diode approach, but my guess is that it might work,
but would cause the panel to report trouble on the bell (as it supervises by
sending a small amount of current down the line and sees if it gets the same
back down the - wire, if nothing comes back, then obviously no bell is
connected)

Might want to be a bit more specific, its a 1K resistor, panel comes with it

I don't know if the value really makes much of a diff but its what DSC
recommends

Agreed about the value, Mark. However, since it comes with the panel I
didn't bother to mention it. Thanks.

Well if the tech is like me he'll immediately lose both the siren and smoke
resistors since their loose in the pack so I figured I'd mention it :)

I think the standard 5.6k will also work. There should be lots of them
kickin' around.
