Hi Again Guys.

Thanks for the response I got earlier this week regarding some info and
programming stuff that I was looking for, I managed to find it (thanks to
Jim Rojas). Now without saying I am lazy I wanted to pick your brains again.
I am sure you heard of EZ-Mate downloader? Well I managed to get hold of a
copy that seems to support my system (FBII XL2) and it seems pretty straight
forward to use. But it doesn't seem to work. I think the problem lies in the
modem device, I take it software is not the only piece of equipment you need
to program you system remotely? Is any modem compatible? Or does it use some
strange speed? I assume (correct me if I am wrong) that the system uses
300buad? or 1200baud? If this is so, is there any specific commands one
needs to configure their modem.

Well I suppose this message is in vain then, cause I have just read a
article stating you need some FBI part 7200 or something. Well just out of
curiosity then if I was able to get this part (or a ancient Hayes Modem)
would it work??

Any Feedback Is Appreciated

Matt

Hey Me, yes you do need a specific type modem with that software if you do
not purchase a F7702 device. The modems are listed below:
Cardinal MB 2400 EX
Hayes Smartmodem 300
or a Hayes Smartmodem 1200 with or without volume control
You can probably find one of these archaic dinosaurs at a surplus store,
Goodwill, flea market, or on eBay. If you can't seem to find one give me a
yell. Good Luck.

You need a Hayes 1200 modem model 70-00038 which hasn't been made since 1986
or so

If you get that you won't need the 7702 module, thats for other modems that
are listed, once you get that it will work fine assuming whoever programmed
your system hasn't downloaded it before and added their CSID number, then
your pretty much out of luck even with a working downloader

I JUST got outbid on an Optima 2400 too...bastards!

they currently have a few right now but most without power supplies it seems
(which are HARD to find) but figure in the end you'll pay up to 50 bux for
one which still is a steal since they last forever and are compatible with
Ademco, Napco, Moose and many other systems

Ebay.com has several Hayes 1200 modems for sale. Just type Hayes 1200 when
searching.

I don't think I've used the Optima 2400. What type of power supply does it
use?

8.5 volts, has phono plug connector instead of that wierd one the 1200 uses,
it works great on Ademco, Napco, DSC, ITI, Linear and a few others and can
fax (only at 9600 tho) if needed

In fact the only thing I use the 1200 sitting below it for is FBI and AT&T
and Moose

Yeah, the Hayes 1200 Smartmodem is hard to find...I found one last week on
the internet...$25 (CDN) and still in the original carton and it works!

The EZ-mate (vers 9.8 ) software rely's on the Smartmodem (Cardinal works)
when you program the panel locally using the 7702 interface. You don't need
the 7702 remotely...just the modem as in your case. They do say that other
modems will work....yes, 300 Baud!

As a further note, some computers and in our case laptops are not
compatible. Toshiba works fine. COM port incompatability.

You might want to check out the new COMPASS software version 1.5 which has
now incorporated communication software for FBI panels. It's windows based
as compared to the EZ-mate which is DOS based. From what I hear the
software is user friendly.

Radio Shack sells the power supplies. You also have to buy a plug for it and
do a bit of soldering.

Thanks. I might see if I can pick one up and try it sometime. Need some
backup modems on the ITI side. Everything else is pretty well covered.

I have an FBI 7702 Brand New in the original box with all instructions and the
power supply.

I also have Hayes modems, new in the box.
As well as about 30 used ones.

Make a resonable offer.

This offer available to all mike?
Got more than one 7702?
I don't have many FBII panels out there but it would be nice to talk to
them... sourcing Hayes 1200 modems up here has been fruitless so far

Try www.ebay.com

They almost always have at least a couple of Hayes 1200's for auction, they
usually go for around $40 average which is still a steal considering they
last forever and pretty much work with most panels
