Enter [*][5][current Master Code][1][new Master Code]
I have tried this repeated times. After I enter [*][5][current Master Code]
I get a long beep, and by the time I have entered the third letter of the
new Master Code I get a short beep and I don't get to enter the 4th letter.
This process does not change the Master Code. I am wondering what is the
matter?
Thank you,
Chris
Simple... 1234 is not the master code. Getting a long beep after entering
[*], [5], [1234] is an "error" tone. Give this a try... [*], [8], [1234].
If the keypad beeps several times in succession, the "armed" light goes on
steady and the "memory", "bypass", and "trouble" lights flash, you're in
*installer* programming. From there, press [2], [1], [enter the new master
code you wish to use]. Then press [#] twice to exit programming (you
actually only have to push it once, but hitting it a second time acts like
the "clear" key on your calculator). If you're happy with 1234 as the
installer code, you don't have to change it, but you might wish to... If
you'ld like to know how, you can ask in the group, or email me.

I tried your recommendation, and apparently [1234] is also not the
installers code either. I tried [1500] and [1550] as installer's codes as
well. No luck. It appears that my only options are to call in a
professional, or be content to arm/disarm the alarm with [1234]. I have
read about some resetting methods, but if they involve programming all of
the zones, I don't want to go there. Any other options?

Yes.
You can give Jim Rojas a "buzz" at http://www.tech-man.com. He can probably
default your board, program in the zones you need and fire it back to you.
You can also try a couple of other default values for installer codes...
1555, 1575 just may work. If either of these do, then your panel is not a
straight 1500 or 1550. The programming manuals are available from Jim if
you need them.

The default installer codes for many panels are listed in my FAQ. From my
home page select [FAQ]. On the FAQ Menu select [Alarm Systems], then
[General]. Click the last item under [General].
Be careful going into installer level programming. You can mess it up.
Before you start doing anything with the program you may download the
manuals from my website. If you don't want to bother, call a local alarm
company. Check references and don't sign *ANYTHING* without looking at both
sides and reading the fine print. Some alarm companies have been known to
include a multi-year monitoring or service contract on their "invoices" to
trap unsuspecting consumers. This isn't common but it does happen.
If the local guys want too much to reprogram it (shouldn't cost more than
$50 or so for a service visit which will take all of a few minutes), you can
just swap the board. Then you'll definitely be programming the thing but
it's not as hard as it sounds once you go through the manual a couple of
times.
Anyway, try to get it resolved locally. If you can't, give me a call and
I'll get you a replacement circuit board. They're pretty cheap.
Regards,
Robert

Looks like the new response is working great G, I can see such a difference
in RLB's posts now
:)
Try defaulting the panel. Disconnect the battery and AC. Just above
the main IC on the board are 2 pins. Short these together and keep
them shorted while connecting the battery. Leave the short on for 10
to 15 second and then remove it. This should put you in programming
mode. If not press *8 1500 and this should. then you can go to the
address for the master code and enter a new one.
