The Scottish surname Henderson is the most common Scots English version of the

Henry") used by members of the ancient Clann Eanruig ("Family of Henry").
Variants of Henderson include Hendryson and Henryson. The Clan Henderson

son of King Neachtain (Gaelic: Eanruig Mor Mac Righ Neachtain.)

Speaker of US House of Representatives David Bremner Henderson (1840-1906),
British statesman and 1934 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Arthur Henderson
(1863-1935), American biochemist Lawrence Joseph Henderson (1878-1942),
African-American jazz musician James Fletcher Henderson (1897-1952), American
musician Lyle Russell Cedric "Skitch" Henderson (1918-), Scottish folklorist
Hamish Henderson (1919-), American epidemiologist Donald Ainslie Henderson

Refer to Surnames of Scotland by Prof Black.
A more modest and probable claim is is decent from a Dughall MacEanruig, who
is believed to have flourished in the first half of the fourteenth century.
As a clan or individually they have made no mark on Scotish history.

The Henderson claim of an 8th century origin is probably as imaginative as
similar claims of other clans. The Clan Henderson is a small clan that largely
emmigrated to British America after the Massacre of Glencoe. Our mark on
history stands for itself.
