As far as I know, there is no Clan MacQuarrie Society, since there is technically no Clan MacQuarrie.  However, some of us "new colony types" are attempting the formation of such a Society!  Check out our Website at:
http://members.tripod.com/~clanmacquarrie
With enough support and interest, we could get this Society off the ground!

Thank you!

As all of my references indicate there is a Clan Macquarrie (though it
is not matriculated), I am curious about your statement above. What do
you mean by "technically no Clan MacQuarrie.)?

Sorry I missed the head of this thred:
Because we are missing a chief, does that mean we can not have a society?
There certainly are lots of MacQuarries around and we think we are a clan.
We have a recorded history since the fifteenth century and family legend
from before. What does it take to form a society?

Maybe the following will provide your answer (its a bit long):
The name is from Guarie or Godfrey and the MacQuarries claim Clan Alpin from
his being a brother to the Fingon, reputed founder of the Clan MacKinnon.
Settled since at least the 13th century in the Isle of Ulva and the
neighboring part of Mull. Until 1493 the clan followed the Lords of the
Isles, thereafter the MacLeans of Duart. The last Chief joined the army aged
63, dying aged 103 in 1818. The name is prominent on Australian maps, from a
clansman who was long Governor of New South Wales. An earlier one founded
the Irish MacQuires, who were to establish the Inniakilling Regiment.
Septs: MacCorrie, MacCorry, MacGorry, MacGorrie, MacGuarie, MacQuire,
MacQuaire, MacQuarie,MacQuhirr, MacQuire, Quarry and Wharrie.
Clan MacQuarrie
Gaelic Name: MacGuaidhre
Motto: Turris fortis mihi deus (God is a strong tower to me)
Badge: Pine
Lands: Ulva
Origin of Name: Gaelic, Son Guaire (Proud or noble)
Pipe Music: MacGuaidhre Turris fortis mihi deus (God is a strong tower to
me)
The Red Tartaned Army A branch of the great clan Alpine, the name
MacQuarrie derives from the gaelic “guaire” meaning “noble”. According to
tradition, Guaire was the brother of Fingon, the progenitor of the MacKinnon
clan.
MacQuire is also derived from MacQuarrie

The new website has been SEVERELY updated! I am going blind, pouring
over HTML but to be
honest, I am VERY happy with the results! I only hope that more people
come by to visit! Plans
in the foreseeable future (ie. after I take a break and watch
Highlander: The Series):
** MacQuarrie Music, songs, poems, etc. Time to dig out what I remember
about frames.. *S*
** The start of a roster of people interested in forming a Society. So
you know, any MacQuarrie
or kin thereof, will be added to the roster if/when they sign the
guestbook!
I am also considering a photo album page, but not for a little while. I
still have 1.75 Mb of
space left on the server to play with, with the means to get more, and I
would like VERY much
to fill it up! If you would like to be included in the photo album,
email me your picture. If you
don't have access to a scanner, email for info how to send the photo to
me and I'll scan it for
you! I prefer GIF format, 250 dpi is fine. I will crop and resize all
the pictures myself, so you
needn't worry about that. I would like the pix to be like 200 pixels in
height to create a uniform
table.
Also, please include any caption you'd like to be included with your
picture (ie. name, email
address, etc.)
For interested persons you may know that do not have access online,
email me and I'll send my
snailmail address to you. Please be fairly discriminatory as to whom you
distribute it to! There
is no plans right now for a newsletter.. not until we have several
members. Once a newsletter
goes into effect I will ask for minimal contributions to cover the cost
of paper and ink
cartridges. However, donations of paper and/or ink cartridges will be
GLADLY accepted
instead!
(How about Society t-shirts? that would be SOOO cool! Can you tell I am
a visionary? *S*)
Again, the future of the Society depends on YOU. I appreciate any and
all help, technical and
otherwise. NEVER hesitate to email me: ca...@bellatlantic.net and stop
by the page and take
some time to look it over. I've only worked on the site for 2 days now,
but there is already a
HUGE wealth of information on it!
SIGN THE GUESTBOOK!
I thank every one of you in advance for everything. Banded together,
even as a small group, we
will be just as close and proud as our ancestors on Ulva!
In humble service to the Clan,
Jon (Iain) MacQuarrie

AN T'ARM BREAC DEARG...is what some of us yell. I heard it was Lachlan,
Father of Australia (having replaced Capt. Bligh), whose motto was "Turris
fortis mihi deus." In any case I'll be checking out Iain and Cassi's web
site.

According to Bruce McQuarrie there are two clan societies on this side
of the pond.

In the U.S. there is one whose contact is Greg McQuery, 7490 Ryebrook
Lane, Rockford, IL, 61114. Telephone (815) 877-2424.

In Canada the contact is Byrchill MacQuarrie, 101 Central Ave.,
Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3N 3H8 or Malcolm MacQuarrie, 79 Exhibition
St., Truro, Nova Scotia, B2N 4C8.

If anyone is interested Bruce also has two books on the clan history.
He can be contacted at 10 Eames Drive, Auburn, Mass, 01501-1308.
Telephone (508) 832-3079.

I've not yet contacted the clan society in Nova Scotia but I will when
I get a round tuit.
