I was reading a book on my ancestor Reuben Steele and it mentioned that his
father was Chief of the MacGregor clan made this in July 1714. Does anyone
know how I can research this?

Rob Roy was the clan chief around this time, was he not? I believe both his
sons were hanged for abducting the daughter of some wealthy noble and forcing
her to marry one of them. I think your book may not be entirely accurate.

To my knowledge, the Steeles were never part of the MacGregor clan, as most
Steeles come from the area of Dumfries & Galloway, mostly in and around
Kirkconnel and Sanquhar. The MacGregors are far more northerly.
