It's a longshot, but it could be a variation of Struan, which is the seat of
the chief of Clan Donnachaidh. Try our website: www.robertson.org

**The pronounced surname Strawn is derived from the Scottish village
of STRACHAN, on Royal Deeside, which is locally spoken as STRAWN.

Yes Chris that is how the name was orginaly spelt but over the years the
name has gone through lots of spelling changes, especially by Jacob II
(Lancelots' grandson). Do you have any info on the family? If you do I
would like to get it from you please!!!

The surname Strachan (pronounced strawn) is derived from the name of the
village of Strachan lying some 18 miles west of Aberdeen in Scotland in
Feughside. I did have a synopsis of the history of the family on my PC
but regret that it's been lost during a clean out however all is not
lost. I personally know the 'Clan Chief', one Ben Strachan whose address
is:Maj Ben Strachan, Mill of Strachan, Strachan, Banchory, Aberdeenshire,
AB31 3NS, Scotland, UK.
Ben has a lot of information on the history of the Strachan family and
also has stocks of crests, tartan, literature and regalia/giftware
associated with the clan.
Some months ago I uploaded the Strachan clan crest onto the Compuserve
Roots library. You may care to browse the libraries to see what your
crest looks like.
Finally, I must add that I have no connection with the Strachan
family/clan, however my wife's family are from the village of Strachan.

Chris
