Is this name Scottish?
Did they belong to a clan?
What part of the country are they associated with?

In searching my family tree I find that I am connected to a family of
Sneddens who came from Liberton, Midlothian. Jean Sneddon was born in
Bilstane Midlothian in 1730. Her Father Alexander was born about 1705 and
married Agnes Hamiltoun.

There is also another variation of the name - Sneddon. I don't know
about the being run out of Scotland bit - fanciful story I would guess,
also you were not specific about which Queen ! !
Sneddon is a Lowland name and is, AFAIK, not associated with any Highland
Clan.
Cheers!!

David,
I too am a member of the Sneddon family. A good question might be: Is
it all one family or are we like the name Smith. Is there any meaning to the
name Sneddon, Snedden, Sneddoun, etc. I guess all the variations stem from
phonetic spelling and the fact that very few people were educated well enough
to read or write in the 17th and 18th centuries. As far as I can find, even
members of the same family, spelled or had spelled for them, the family name in
different forms.
I have tried to trace my family. I can go back just a bit more than
100 years. My grandfather Thomas Blackie Sneddon was born in Larkhall,
Lanarkshire, Scotland on 30 November 1880. His birth record indicates that his
parents were married in Chicago. And that is the block. I have been unable to
find any records of Sneddons in Chicago in 1864. Could my gread-grandfather
have attempted to avoid service in federal forces in the Civil War?
Anyway, I too would like to know more about the Sneddon, whatever the
spelling, family.
Warmest regards,
John T. Sneddon
