Can anyone tell me what size the nut is that holds the metal pipe connector
to the base of the oil tank?
I have 2 stroke oil leaking from my PX200Disc. I have raised the petrol and
oil tanks, but not completely removed them, and found that the metal
connector that the oil pipe is connected to at the base of the oil tank is
wet with oil. However, there is no oil on the outside of the tank itself. I
am therefore wondering if the connector nut has worked loose and oil is
seaping through the seal.
A specialist Vespa tool is available to reach the nut inside the tank, but I
have a very long extension bar with my socket set that will reach right into
the tank. Unfortunately I can't find any reference to the size of the nut.

TIA,

Andrew

I cant. Haynes shows various parts but mentions no
sizes.
I suggest you buy every sealing ring/O ring around
every opening in the oil tank, i.e. level glass, seal
above tank & bottom seal where oil pipe joins the
tank. They wont cost much and you might as well
be prepared for a leak anywhere.
Is the PX still under warranty, some have a 3 year
one, how about yours. It is transferable. I am the
3rd owner of my PX and I still have a warranty, Piaggio
have acknowledged it.
Get a Haynes book, they say a socket can be used
but not what the size is. Empty the tank out & try
various sizes until one fits.

Thanks for your reply Mike.
I've checked all the seals and the oil is definately coming from the base of
the oil tank, around the metal pipe connector.
I've got the Haynes manual and can reach the nut through the mouth of the
oil filler. It's the size I need to know. I'll probably end up trying every
socket I have one after the other. Sod's law dictates though that either,
(a) it will be the last one of about 25 I try, or (b) at least one socket
will come off the end of the extension bar and drop into the tank.
I've had the scooter from new and the warranty has expired.

it's probably a bit out of what you want to spend, depending on how much
work you do yourself on your scooter, but you could look for the Vespa
Technica book on your model years. I believe they have complete
specifications for just about everything on there, it's just the book is big
and costs around $75+.

If you are concerned, once you have it stripped out
take it to your local vespa dealer fot his workshop
to undo & replace the seal there with their greater
experience!!!.
You will have saved a lot of the labour costs.

Excuse my bad english because I am french speaker
You can't use a common socket. The metal connector you talk have a special
filter inner the tube 3 or 4 cm high
The nut is a 17mm nut, but you have to use a long extension bar AND a LONG
17mm socket because the filter not allow to reach the nut with the socket.
You can also made a tool with a "tube wrench" (I don't know the right word
in english, like the one to change a spark plug with a hole to help to turn
with a screw driver)
You have to find a metal tube who can go just inside ( long 40cm) drill a
hole and fix the tube wrench and the metal tube togheter with a screw cutted
at the right lenght.
If you want I can send you a picture of the tool I've made
Pay attention if you push firmly with your normal socket you will brake the
filter and allow small parts and dust to go with the oil.
Your good oil will have the effect of a perfect sand paper inside your
engine !!!!
Goog luck
