Hi,

I have an 86 Honda Elite 150 that just started giving me some trouble.
It seems that it just isn't getting fuel. I have an aftermarket fuel
filter in the fuel line from the petcock to the carb and can see that
it runs dry. I then fill it up with gas hook everything back up and it
runs perfect until it runs dry of gas. I have replaced the petcock
with a used tested petcock and that didn't seem to fix the problem.
There is a slight chance that the second petcock is bad but, I am
thinking there is probably a problem with the vacuum strength. I've
pulled the vacuum hose from the petcock while running and I can feel
vacuum but, it is obviously not opening the petcock?

Has anyone experience this probelm. It is not the fuel filter. I have
heard that the intake manifold can break and cause lack of vacuum? I
am curious if this was the case that I would notice any problems while
running? Which I haven't noticed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sevenpelicans

It's easy to test petcock. Pull the gas line from the carb and suck on
the vacuum control line going to the petcock. Fuel should flow freely
out the gas line if the end of the line is held at least as low as the carb.

Also make sure the gas cap is venting :)

I had a similar problem. I installed an aftermarket car filter from
Autozone. Bike would run for 10 minutes then stop with empty fuel
filter. After it stood long enough it would start and run fine untl the
filter emptied again. Many of those filters are designed for higher
pressure systems with fuel pumps. I replaced the filter with an
aftermarket scintered brass filter designed for small engines and the
problem went away.

I know I'm 8 years late to the party, but maybe someone can help me. I have an 86 elite 80 that just isn't running right, the engine doesn't seem to be getting enough fuel so I picked up a new fuel filter. Any idea how to install this thing? I can't seem to find where it goes. Thanks!
