Hey there.

Here in Canada, I can only wonder but maybe you Europeans out there
might know. Which of the following three bikes have the fastest top
end speed?

Aprilia RS50
Cagiva Mito 50
Derbi GPR50R

The reason I ask this is, all three companies have a presence in the
US now, and I may potentially try to bring one into Canada next
spring. So far the Aprilia has my vote, but I dont know much about the
other two.

Any info would be great.

avoid the derbi, i have had experience with derbi and all i have had were bad
things, not one good, their scooters are very badly built, poor quality, bad
engines as well as electronics

i have had no experience with the other companies but from what i have herd, i
would go with aprilia

I have never seen or heard about the Mito, and the GPR50R... I cant remember
what the Aprillia one looks like either.

Any links i can follow to see these bikes? I would definatly like to get a
new bike if it aint to much to import.

Where I live (Holland) I have only seen the Aprilia and the Derbi. Both are
not automatic and therefore are not sold very much. Automatic
mopeds/scooters are (still) cheaper in insurance.
As for their speed: top speed for *all* mopeds and scooters is 45 km/h
(about 30 mph). But of course almost every youngster derestrict their
vehicles as soon as possible. Then top speed depends on how the job was
done.

(Smacking my own head)

I just printed out specs and pictures of The Aprilia, Derbi and Cagiva
and kept looking at the pics. The Cagiva and Derbi are the exact same
bike! UGH! Same engine and everything. The Derbi sells for a bit less
I think. $2950 US.

How is derestricting usually done? Is it done via the drive assembly, or by
the way the engine breathes?

That depends on how fast one wants his/her scooter to ride. On various Dutch
sites one can find tips and tricks to deristrict a scooter.
I have read about mounting another carb, exhaust pipe, bigger cylinder and
piston, taking out rings from the variator pulley and mounting lighter
roller weights.
