Is there a way of removing the steering/ignition lock on a vespa T5 classic
(frame similar to PX125) without having to drill it out???
Please HELP! (I am deperate...)
Thanks
Nicholas
How do we know you haven't stolen it ?
and are trying to get our advice ?
If I had stolen it I would have known what to do or would have just drilled
out the thing without worrying about possibly damaging the scooter in the
process don't you think?
Oh and thanks for being so helpfull by the way. Do you know then how to do
it or are you just trying to be clever?

Sorry if I offended you, but questions like that have happened on scooter
and bike groups. I personally know of one motorcycle that was actually
recovered because the thief posted a question some weeks later on a news
list, which made people suspicious because of his question. He was located
by some clever detective work and the bike was recovered.
I just want to save a few ŁŁ and be able to go to work on Monday after some
idot decided that it was fun to stick a couple of matches with glue down my
ignition lock.

habit of annoying people, that they would stcik the matches in your
lock to get back at you?

> 1. How to get rid and STOP the rust in the frame tunnel?
Depending on how involved you want to get, I mean, I suppose you could
strip the entire frame and get it blasted or dipped or something. How
bad is the rust? Maybe a bit of scraping around and some WD40 or Naval
Jelly (rust remover) will do the trick. It is possible to get the
inside of the frame fairly clean, you just have to strip everything out
and spend some time scrubbing/sanding/blasting/etc.
> 2. How to remove the steering-lock?
OK, important... despite what Ben has said (sorry ;-)), you do NOT need
to drill the lock (if you have the key). On a P, you simply have to
remove the metal collar which covers the lock by gently prying it loose
with a screw driver (there is a slot provided for this). Take care at
this point, and you will most likely be able to reuse the two rivets
which hold it in place. Once the collar has been removed, you can turn
the key and pull the lock out of the steering column. Now if you don't
have the key, of course, it will have to be drilled, at least enough
that you can turn it with a screwdriver and pull it out. After
re-installation, you can still remove it just by taking off the metal
collar and turning with the key.
> 3. How to install the gear-shift click-stop device?
Not sure exactly what you mean here, so I'll assume you mean getting the
gear selector box onto the case? Just turn the arm out past the point
of fourth gear (in other words, as far out as possible). It should now
be possible to line it up with the slot in the output shaft which
extends from the case. Once that is lined up, you can worry about
slipping the gearbox over the two studs and gently pushing it on, making
sure that the selector arm stays in the slot (don't forget to install
the gasket first). Is that what you meant?
Hope that will help a bit. Good luck with your restoration.

I think that's an unfriendly thing to say. Don't go away, Nico, I'm going to
ask Spouse about it.
Mary
Thanks, Steve. We've had another chapter in our scooter saga and I forgot to
ask Spouse.

Thank you both Steve and Michelle for helping out. I managed to removed the
lock (had to drop the forks though) and all is well now.
I am glad not all people on here are cynical and suspicious. Trevor if you
are thinking of a career change try -
http://www.met.police.uk/recruitment/index.htm they are always looking for
bright new recruits.
Thanks again
