i have a 1986 honda spree and i cant seem to keep it running.it starts
fine and runs good but after you rev it for about 30 seconds it dies.i
have cleaned the carburetor, also tried another one.checked the pipe to
see if it was clogged, its not.installed a new plug.checked the fuel
thingy under the seat and gas is flowing and the filter is clean.has
fresh gas and is getting oil.the airbox is installed with a good
filter and it still dies.i can keep it running if i spray carb cleaner
in the airbox so i assume its not getting enough fuel.why and what can
i do to fix this.could it be low compression and the bike isnt getting
enough vacuum through the carb?but why the the bike run so good and it
will idle forever.adjusted the air screw numerous times.whats up,im
stumped.any help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a fuel restriction problem. Have you checked/cleaned
out the petcock to make sure you have a good flow of gas?

Automatic choke or manual? It's 'probably' a manual choke, does it die
before or after you turn it off? Are you using it at all?

Speaking of which, has anyone ever replaced an automatic choke?

This is a common problem with carb rebuilds after long term storage.

Carb is rebuilt but no one ever cleans the gas tank, fuel petcock, fuel lines.
So, the motor is started runs fine at idle. for a lil while then the crap from
gastank, fuelpetcok, fuellines comes loose with the new fuel and screws up the
carb again.

Ya gotta clean that whole fuel system, mate!

Hello, well I have recently bought an 86 spree and after only few weeks had had the same problem with it not wanting to stay running once started. Now it won't start at all even though it sounds lik it wants to turn over.
First - I changed the spark plug. No improvement.
Second - I cleaned the carb and even took it in and had it checked. No improvement after reinstalled.
Third - I drained and refilled fuel tank several times (long story).
Fourth- I replaced the petcock and fuel filter so those are new. No improvement.
Fifth - I checked the fuel and vacuum lines from the petcock to the carb and they are clear. No improvement.

Here is what I am seeing....even though there is free flow from the gas tank and clear passage with the gas and vacuum hoses and petcock/filter is replaced there is no evidence of gas flowing through the gas hose at all. From petcock to carb after trying to start it. The line is completely dry and it still won't turn over. I am at a loss here. I even disconnected the gas line at the carb end and tried sucking gas from it to test it and no gas flow. Any ideas?

You need to create a vacuum in the lower line and open the drain screw on the bottom of the carb.
Fuel will not flow into the carb until you do this.

Disconnect the fuel line at the carburetor. Make a gravity feed gas container (gas tank) and fuel line long enough to attach to the carburetor. Start the bike and check how it runs now. You will also be able to see how the gas feeds out of your scooter gas tank and whether or not you have steady fuel supply coming out the hose. Bob bobl...@gmail.com 831 383-2676
