Hi,

This research process I am going through is very frustrating. I am looking for any advice as to which of the following scooters you all think is best.

Yamaha Majesty 400
Suzuki Burgman 400
Suzuki Burgman 650
Honda Silverwing 600

Majesty 400 - I hear it is jerky and lacks power from 0-25, is the brug 400 also similir in this case? How do these two compare performace wise? To me the dash of the Majesty is the nicest looking of all the brands, Honda second place.

Burgman 650 - that digital readout seems like an eye soar to me, does it look better in person? Also, what kind of latency exists on the digital readout? If i am accelerating fast, I would want the speedo to be able to keep up.

Silverwing 600 - if anyone could elaborate on any difference between these two it would be great, I think the looks of both are nice but am not sure why the Honda is so much more expensive.

This decision is turning out to be harder than expected, I would love to hear back from people who have ridden any of these. I am curious also just how much more power a 600/650 would have over a 400, the 400 may just be able to cut it for me if it is peppy enough. Gas mileage is also a concern.

Thanks for any help!

SB

I've got a Big Burger. I like everything about it, except for the name.

The speedo will keep up better than you can accelerate - unless you ride off
the edge of a cliff! The instrument cluster has two trip meters, an
odometer, a tachometer, a fuel mileage monitor, a clock, an ambient
temperature gauge, a gas gauge. and a motor temp gauge, plus a potfull of
other lights and dohickeys. Not to be confused with doomaflotchies,
though.

The Burg 650 runs freeway speeds and beyond. Way beyond! I haven't yet had
mine much over 90, though. =8D

I find it to be powerful and stable at all legal freeway speeds. It's also
quite comfortable, with monkeybutt not becoming a factor until at least two
hours into a ride. Seating position is fine, and the back rest can be
adjusted at stops.

It's reasonably smooth and even at my 6 feet I don't get buffeting behind
the wind screen, even at freeway speeds.

The tranny is a real hoot; it's got three modes. It has an economy mode, a
power mode, and a 5-speed shift-it-yourself mode. But mostly it runs just
fine for us shiftless folk.

Fuel mileage is averaging around 52 per gallon. I figure mileage won't
stabilize until about 5,000 miles or so. It does take only 87 octane gas,
which is a blessing.

The trunk under the seat works as advertised, and can, with creative packing
fit three helmets there, or two helmets plus jackets and gloves. Rear
shocks are adjustable with five preload positions.

A 400 should be able to get you up to 90, or maybe more. I'd bet on the
fuel-injected machines for reliability and power, though.

If you can find a used Big Burger at a good price, I'd say get it. The
motor/trannie combo should be good for at least 50K miles without trouble,
and may last a lot longer with good care.

I was faced with the delima and decided to go with the SWing. The
SWing came out to $7 K out the door while I could have got a Burgman
650 for $6500 OTD, or maybe even less.

Tne reason: Brand and style. I think the SWing has more of an updated
look than the Bgman. Never actually rode a Bgman but I presume its as
fast and handles equally well to that of a SWing.

I've only had a 50cc Honda Metro Scooter back in College. The SWing
was a big change and actually caused me to drop it once. Sort of
regret not getting a smaller scooter (maybe the Majesty) perhaps it
would have been easier to handle.

Honda does have excellent dealer support and parts, if that is a side
benefit of going w/a larger company.

The Burgman digital readout is indeed an eyesore! Honda and Yamaha both have
beautiful looking speedometers. The analogue readout is also better for
quick glances... gotta keep your eyes on the road ya know.

which is one reason i got the burg400- proper analog dial gauges. after
owning 2 helixes, those LCD displays may have been cool 20 years ago,
but they arent now.

Add the X9 500 to that list! Actually the X9 250 is just as good up to
60 mph, still has a (real) top speed of 80, and has far better fuel
economy. But then I'm biased... :)

I guess it's whatever you grew up with as I really like the helix
digital. Much nicer than my dad's old style analog (reflex)

Why don't you write up a review on the X9? I would be interested.
