I have just located and purchased an origional Honda radio kit
for my Helix. This is the one with the remote control made by
Kenwood. This appears to be a complex installation that involves
some cutting of body panels. I am looking for advice from anyone
who has done this installation, esp. about things that they would
do different the second time around. What can you tell me about
this instllation and are there any tricks/traps?

i took the one i had on my 150, and put it on my helix. had to:

take off the "access cover"

cut a hole in the top of the right side glovebox, just big enough to
squeeze the radio in sideways- its wedged in there pretty good, and ya
cant see it when the glovebox is shut, which (to me) is all that counts

stuck a cheapy pep-boys "cell-phone" style antenna inside the nose area-
yes... id eventually like to mount it on the trunk, and get a LONG
extension cable...

cut "slats" in the access panel, and put in 2 kraco 50w 3 1/2" dashboard
speakers in.

installed hand controls on left handlebar

verdict? looks clean, but it could use an amp. might add one later.
REALLY easy hookup- switched power lead already comes out of the
harness. i kinda hated to lose the right glovebox space, and having to
butcher the top of it to get the radio to fit, but i saw no other
possible way... that was the only way to fit it in the glovebox!

at least now, i can HEAR the sound- i couldnt on the 150 due to wind
noise- the windshield really helps out. just want to add a small amp,
tho i think the little black box IS the amp. oh... and small speaker
grilles. i left the old speakers/grills in the 150. hope this helps...
only other way i could see doing it would be to mount the stereo in the
TRUNK, and run the rest of the wires under the scooter. i *still* might
give that a shot. more room back there for a small amp, anyhow :)

hope this helps...

Remote control ? Radio? On a scooter? Will these Honda people never
stop? Do you have a foot massage attachment as well? What's the remote
control for that like? Or an electric butt warmer? Beware of the "traps"
on that one...the "tricks" could pay off though...

There is good reason that the helix is called the Goldwing of
scooters. The radio is one of them. Also I got an Aspencade
logo to put on the back on the trunk. Looks nice.

pretty simple, actually. its a little box, with 4 buttons on it-

1 up/down toggle for volume
1 up/down toggle for tuning
1 in/out button for am/fm
1 regular push button for the presets(5 of em)

it goes on a bracket, which places it in front of the left hand grip .my
hand never leaves the bars. pretty kewl deal!

Nice easy installation instructions for sounds Mike The only comment I
have is I'd think your going to eat speakers due to rain. I've always
used Radio Shak's wedge shaped water proof boat speakers. Real sturdy
and they bolt on with a long screw in the back.
