On my Reflex, when the headlamps are on regular low beam , just one of
the headlamps
light, when switched to high Beam both go on. Is this normal or do I
have a burned out
low beam. I couldnt find anything in the owners manual regarding this.
Thanks Jimmy Z

Hi Jimmy Z!

So far as I know, that's the way the beast was designed, so yes I guess
you would call it "normal". It's a trifle disconcerting at first
glance, however.

If it is not too involved I would be interested in changing it also. How would
I go about changing it. I think it is pretty unsafe and stupid to have dual
lights but only one side lighting. Throws off the oncoming traffic I would
think. I plan on riding with the high beam on...hey Ill really be visible
now!!!!

I thought that was very strange, then came the way to short windshield, and
most dissapointing the throttle response at 30 mph which is where a scooter
should have its most power thats why mine is history Don vtx 1800 owner and
thrilled!!

The advantage to the setup is that flicking the high beam off/on/off/on
is *really noticeable*. I've gotten into the habit of doing just that
when I get the feeling that a car about to pull out from a driveway or
intersection might not have noticed me.

But yes, in general, I drive with the high beam on always.

Thanks for the reply . I have been riding with the highbeam on ...havent gotten any
dirty
"in the rear view mirror" looks yet so i'm not really worried. I did pass a cop who
did a double take on me.. not sure if it was because of my highbeam or that he was
checking out the Reflex. I am sure I am the first in my area to have one as there are
only two
Honda Dealers nearby...25 miles nearby. Anyway I really love my new Reflex and
the headlamp deal is no biggie....like all new products there will be the usual
critiquing.

Well Don I am glad you are happy with your vtx 1800...good luck with it..whatever works for you.  I was thinking about your comments about the throttle response at 30 mph today when I went for my oceanside cruise which helps me keep my sanity ..and I had no feeling of dissappointments with the response.  Hey I am no lightweight either.  I am 240lbs and My Reflex performs well.   Again I did not buy a Reflex for SPEED...
but do expect a reasonable amount of power and speed.  I think the Reflex is just right.
Yeah you mentioned that Honda overplayed the performance of the Reflex..but that is just sales hype.   Did you ever read the dealer catalogs be it for a Bike..car  etc...laced with
all sorts of colorful praise and high expectations.  Its part of the sales game!!!

The low beam on my Helix is not very impressive and does not seem to
extend far enough down the road to be safe above about 25 mph. I've
ridden with the high beam on full-time for the past 7 months, and only
once in all that time have I had a car flash it's brights at me. I
guess it just doesn't put out quite enough to annoy people even on
high, so I opt for the added visibility.

You could always adjust it. I used to run an 80w/100 in mine. Personally
I really dislike bikes that run full beam all the time. It makes it
harder to judge distance and speed and I think it makes it more likely
that people will pull out in front of you, rather than less.

No, its just him. I own a Reflex, and have had dozens of scoots and
bikes. There is no problem with the design, the speed is excellent
and mine flies through all speeds. I have no lag or speed issues
whatsoever.

What I love is how Don talks about it, like its a built in fault, like
a true problem. Except no one acknowledges it but him.

Since he has his new bike, maybe he will stop trying to rain on
everyone elses parade. The Reflex is a superior machine.

Last time I checked, Honda doesn't make to many mistakes, especially
not on a bike that had already been in Japan for 3 years before the US
got it.

Btw: Many sport bikes now offer dual headlamps and only fire one for
low and both for high, it is becoming more common, the Reflex is not
alone.

I wouldn't advise flicking your headlights. Many people think this is
an 'OK' to go ahead signal and will pull out if you do it. Just put
the headlight on high and leave it there until you're past them.

When I got my Helix, the low beam was so low, it hit the road about 10 feet
in front of the wheel. I asked the dealer to adjust it, and was told it was
a sealed unit, and couldn't be changed. I found a website that told how to
adjust it, and did.

Perhaps you should go to a parking lot at night and shine the lights on a
building wall and see where they are aimed. You might be able to adjust the
light.....
