Extreme Scooters - legit?

basically at that price the fucking thing could be made in Botswana for
all I care.

I've heard of the Name "Roketa" - that is the importer. the maker is
usually Chuanl (don't know about the "Sicily" specifically). Chuanl is
on par with Tank, Baron, Diamo. not great but not utter shit like
Panterra (pepboys) or Geely either.

I have abolutely no intention of shelling out 3k nor in shelling out 1k
for a used bike.

I do have a car - which shall remain my primary means of transportation.

Extreme Scooters? legit?

thanks for the reply BTW.

They're legit. I just got two Roketa MC-04's that were delivered
Wednesday. He even knocked a hundred bucks off the shipping on the two.

They came fully assembled except mirrors and battery, as advertised.

Before I bought, I checked the company out, and talked to Chad on the
phone a couple of times. Responses to emails were quick and very
thorough.

If the Roketa's are junk bikes, I can live with junk - happily!
Everything worked right out of the box, performance and handling are
sweet, they look great. Nice fit and finish.

You could definitely do worse than a Roketa from extremescooters.biz

There is another one, extreme-scooters.com, that I hacve read
less-than-glowing reviews of... no personal experience though.

so they are legit and a great buy sounds like ;-).

Let us know how you feel about it in six months....also, did you manage
to get a license plate on it?

A lot of folks think the "fit and finish" on these things is good, but
have never had anything to compare them to. I've compared several
Chinese against Japanese scoots side by side, and unless there has been
a substantial change in the last couple of months, there is no
comparison. (chrome that flakes off in a few months? Plastic panels
that never fit right? Carbs that need adjusting after a few hundred
miles? Front suspension assemblies that are loose and have unacceptable
freeplay within a hundred miles? Batteries that last a month? ect.
ect.)

Read up all the scooter forums on these things- terrible reviews via a
million questions about how to fix a virtually new scooter.

Don't say you weren't forwarned.

no doubt!

I'm sure there is no valid equivalent comparision to be made. if it
"runs" and can be used as secondary transportation, that is fine by me.

If I wanted the best I buy a Yamaha or Honda, but I don't want the best
for the price at will cost me. so good enough will do.

I have a Honda Car with 250,000 miles 14 yrs, had a british Truimph TR7
with 90,000 6 yr before it........................it would be laughable
to make a comparision of equivalency between those two cars (WRT
reliablity).

TR was a PIG!..............though it could run circles around the Honda
literally and looked a hell of a lot cooler - IF you could get it
started and hold it together long enough to do a donut.

I HAVE read up on the reviews!! -and you know what??????????????? THERE
AREN'T ANY!!!

type in "Roketa" in google and tell me how many reveiws you get!

or try "Diamo", or even "Baron".................how many reviews?

NONE.

We all know PepBoy's Panterra is shit, and the same for
Geely.............from scraps of info on the net (- any actual reveiws
of these brands??????????????? NOPE).

no forum posts on Roketa nor Diamo - simply no info good or bad about
them.

If you know of a (any review!) reveiw of a Roketa scooter, please

Since I made the post on scooterBBS that was copied here, I'll answer
your questions.

Did I get a license plate on it? Yes. No problem. I just put the bolts
through the plate and fender and attached nuts to the back side to
secure it. Or do you mean was I able to get a plate issued? All you
need is a bill of sale, and an MCO. Oh, and a checkbook helps too.

I guess you're right, I have no idea how the fit and finish was on the
scooters I looked at in the local stores. I guess I should have asked
around to see if my eyes were deceiving me, as they obviously were.

Chrome that flakes of... hmmm... Guess I should have bought one that
has chrome so I could answer this one... But while I was shopping
around I did see a brand new Harley on the showroom floor with
noticeable pitting of the chrome - does that count? Or is it OK, since
it isn't Chinese?

The plastic panels fit just fine. As good as anything else I looked at.

My carb needs adjusting? It must... in fact it's a miracle that the
thing even runs at all. After all, I have just over 650 miles on it and
I have yet to touch the carb. And the free play in the front suspension
must be really bad, since they only last a hundred miles...

I have yet to see a review or a request for info on how to fix a Roketa
scooter. Where do you read all of this? Please provide links, I would
love to see it. Perhaps I could learn some valuable information for the
myriad of inevitable breakdowns that I have somehow overlooked in the
first hundred miles on these bikes.

I have two Roketa scooters that are ridden daily. My question to you,
sir, is : Have you ever had any PERSONAL experience with this
particular brand of scooter? Or are you simply reciting the rhetoric
that exists all over the 'net, perpetuated by people who have never
even so much as seen the product that they so willingly bash?

Too good in what way? And you base this assumption on what?

The scooters are delivered quickly, and exactly as described.

Unlike some others, I have actually bought from extremescooters.biz so
I know what I am talking about. The proof is sitting out in my
driveway.

Maybe they're a figment of my imagination.... After all, it is TOO GOOD
TO BE TRUE.

How would you expect someone to answer such a ridiculous question? With
two pieces of paper and some money you get a license plate. Nothing to
it.

Yes, I did. And when I saw all the flaws in the "big name" brands I
decided that they were over-hyped and not worth the price.

But you said it would not last 100 miles.... I never said that 650
miles was a great amount of riding, only that it is far more than you
stated the bike would go before needing major overhaul.

No, that's your mind playing tricks on you again, but mark my words,
unless you got a really good one, it will be a pile of crap when a

Look at all the friggin' posts here and around, nothing but "I bought

I also bought a Roketa scooter from extremescooters.biz (Bermuda MC-11).
I agree that the fit and finish of this thing seems a little cheap,
and the on-off light switch doesn't work although I don't mind much
since it is stuck in the "on" position.

Otherwise I am mostly satisfied. I was surprised by the power train,
and if the speedo is correct, it can easily achieve its 125 kph max
speed. What's pissing me off though, is the fact that after 2weeks I
still haven't seen the MCO so the 20 miles I have put on this have been
completely illegal.

Can anyone verify that Roketa 150cc scoots are California legal? My
state (Mass) won't let you register any vehicle that's not legal in all
50 states including CA.

The on-off light switch? Are you referring to the headlights? The
headlights and tail light are on whenever the engine is running. The
switch on the left is to select between high beam and low beam. You
can't turn them off.

> Can anyone verify that Roketa 150cc scoots are California legal? My

I found the following info at http://www.mass.gov/rmv/regs/lev.htm

"Simply put, the LEV program requires that new vehicles - any vehicle
with 7,500 miles or less on the odometer - must be equipped with
factory-installed California-certified advanced emission control
systems. This applies to all 1995 and newer passenger cars and
light-duty trucks up to 6,000 pounds sold and registered in
Massachusetts."

It makes no specific mention of motorcycles. Actually, it seems to
exclude them as it specifies light duty trucks and passenger cars. Are
you absolutely sure the rule applies to your scooter? I wouldn't take
the word of just one person at the DMV... They may be making an
incorrect assumption, or may simply be misinformed.

Have you emailed or called Chad at extremescooter.biz? He will know if
the scooter is OK for California, and he might know if it would fall
under the rule in Mass. He's also the person to talk to about your
missing MCO... You did email the VIN to them to conform that you
received the scooter, right?

I could find no mention of California on the extremescooter.biz website
to confirm not deny that they are CARB approved.

Did you read the FAQ? It says:

4. Are the scooters street legal?
We highly recommend that you contact your state's Department of Motor
Vehicles and legislature to see what scooter laws you must follow
before purchasing your scooter online.

NOTE: Since scooter laws vary from state to state, you are solely
responsible for determining the legality of your scooter in your state.
We will not issue any refunds based on claims of unsatisfactory legal
status.

Hope it all works out. If Mass doesn't cooperate... um, how close are
you to the border? ;-)

Thanks for the reply, CaptnDan. It makes sense that the lights are
always on, but there IS a 3-way switch on the right handle bar that
looks like an off-on-control panel switch that does absolutely nothing.

Quite possibly the case. When I took my motorcycle permit test, I asked
the woman behind the desk about registering my scooter. She first said
that you can't register a scooter, so I explained to here that was true
for scoots under 50cc. Anything over that the state views as a
motorcycle; hence the permit test. She looked confused and flipped
through some pages in a book and then told me that it had to conform to
CA's emission standards. So no, I don't particularly trust her. I
wouldn't doubt if you are 100% correct.

I e-mailed ES.biz after posting here. Chad wrote back that because of
the high price of gas, they have been selling like hot-cakes. He also
said it was mailed Monday, so I would expect it maybe Friday since I
live in New England. He did say that they don't sell them in California
since they are not CARB approved, but he hasn't seen a problem in any of
the other 49 states, so we'll see.....

Pretty close, but The People's Democratic Republic of Massachusetts
won't let you register anything in another state, Comrade.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yes.

There you go assuming again......

No.

Like what, "clearify", or "clearification" or relivant?-
http://www.dictionary.net/clearify

Yes, yes it does.

IMNSHO, and it's just an educated and truly tested opinion-

Geely- Real crap.....sorry to those that own one of these.
Roketa, (yes I have)- crap, but not as bad. Uses the old Honda knock
off counterfiet engine, and I might add the ones I checked out had
expansion chambers left over from the previous two stroke models on
them to boot! That's not good, ya' know what I'm sayin'? Still no
customer support, though the dealer is still there after a few months.
The guy who ran it even bitched about lack of factory support and
unavailable manuals (shop). Sorry, I knew that would piss you off.
Vento, yeah, I know not made in China, right? Still crappy and no
customer support or manuals available after a year.
KYMCO probably the best of the bunch, but not up to the Japanese
scoots.
Hyosung- no, but I will. (I know, not Chinese)
Royal Enfield, or Enfield India for the anal retentive. Not really so
bad, but I'd buy a Japanese motorcycle for the same money first, maybe
I'd buy one as a novelty item though. (I know, not a scooter either).

You asked, and you're welcome.

Sorry, forgot to add the "Yamati/Motostrada- about the same as Roketa,
including the "Tuned silencer thing".

I know you being funny, but your post sort of disses my State (of only
that is my perception).

The USA is made up of 50 of them - not only the one called California.

The troubles that plague the US of A are many - an incompetant
president, a fascist vice-president, an imperialist cabinet, an illegal
and unwinnable war, a falling dollar a falling standard of living a
rising national debt a rising cost of living and a rising belligerant
Nationalistic Nation called China.

I think pollution standards for scooters is way way down the list.

peace.

I'd be interested in knowing what that switch is, when you find out.

On mine, (Fiji MC-04) the engine kill switch is just inboard of the
right hand grip, with the electric start right below it. On the left is
the turn signals (left, right, center/off). Inboard of that is the
hazard lights, and above all of this is the high/low beam headlight
control.

Maybe the three position switch is the turn sigs? I think they are on a
fuse. If they don't work, check for that.

Best,

Dan

I'm here - I did not respond because the newreader I use - XanaNews on
occasion cannot read some posts - in this case it reads your two replys
to yourself - yet not the original 74-line post.

I disslike Outlook (hangs my PC too often) and Thunderbird is too
bloaty.

I use Xana even though 1/25 posts I cannot read for some reason. It is
lean, fast and has a commonsense interface.

If you care to repost - I could respond - or we could just let it go.

deal, I agree.

as an aside, could you tell me if you posted the unreadable 74-line
post from another program than your others?

or did it have HTML in it??

I'd like you know why XanaNews can't read some posts - only the
header/size of them.

finding a good news-reader is not easy. and a good binary reader is
even more nightmarish. I like to stick with Xana.

any help in this matter I would be most greatful ;-).
