Hey all,

Just bought a Kymco ZX50. Love it. Anyway, My dealer is too far to get
oil when I need it in a hurry. Is there anywhere online to Kymco oil?
Or is there another brand that you would reccomend to use in a pinch.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Christian

what oil? you mean thw two stroke oil? Just use a good quality injection oil
and you won't have any problems. (I am a dealer as well, when you want to go
faster let me know.) don't worry..

I have a Kymco People 50, and haven't had to replace the oil yet. My
dealer gave me a bottle. It just says 'T2' in big letters on it. I
assume that all two stroke oils are similar, like motor oil. I don't
think they have Kymco brand oil in the US, like they recommend in the
manual.

On another note, the Kymco manual says to put 92 octane gas in the
tank, but here in LA, the highest grade of gasoline I can find is 91,
except for one station which has 92.

It has been running fine on 91 octane.

What's the deal with most stations lowering their "premium" octane?

There really isn't a "KYMCO Oil". It simply runs on 2-stroke oil. You
can get it anywhere, even Wal-Mart. However, I highly recommend buying
Full Synthetic 2 cycle oil from a cycle shop. It is a little more
expensive than natural oil (eg $4 vs $8), but a quart lasts 500+ miles and
protects the motor better, smokes less, and doesn't carbon up your exhaust
pipe and port. There are many good brands. A few are Klotz, BelRay,
Maxima, and many others. The good oils can be found at just about any
motorcycle shop.

Castrol makes a very good hi rev 2 stroke synthetic called TSS. I use it in
my kitted Atlantis and have ever since
the rings got seated in at 400 miles . Before that, regular petroleum based
2 stroke oil is best for seating the rings.
Then, start adding the synthetic till gradually all the P base oil will be
replaced.

Gregg

In taiwan (where the scooter is made) they use a diffrent octane
rating there which 91 octane there is equal to about like 82 octane
here (very rought eastimate) but the compression ration on the kymco
is 7.29, thats a very low compression ratio, and since detonation
occurs at high rpm's you have nothing to worry about, especially if
its restricted...

Thanks, I guess the 91 octane is fine then.

It's not restricted, though. I don't know why they castrate scooters
when the bring them over here, but since I had to get a motorcycle
permit, and insurance, and licence plates anyway ... there was
absolutely no reason to leave it restricted.
