This is turning into the longest "hour" I can remember. It's into its 4th
hour right now, and still they are not accepting my WUs or returning new
WUs.

I can't either and I somehow am not surprised. A lot of times they get
swamped when they come back online. Are they up yet? I haven't checked the
web site.

Look closely at
http://cricket.berkeley.edu:8885/inr-60-interfaces.html
The outage started at ~6:00 local time and lasted about 10 to 15 minutes.
Little or no buildup of connects were indicated.
The continued slowness today is more or less consistent with the daily use
pattern.

Does UCB still have a BW problem? YES
Did todays outage cause a problem? NO
Will what they did today be helpful? Too soon to tell.

I wish all of Berkeley's activities went as well as this outage.

Enjoy the Ride!

Actually the network outage only lasted 15 minutes. You can see by the
cricket graphs
(http://www.net.berkeley.edu:8885/~cricket/cricket/grapher.cgi?target=/router-interfaces/inr-60-interfaces/fastethernet1_0_0&ranges=d%3Aw&view=Octets)
that the traffic from the s@h server was interrupted for only a short
time. The cause of the problem you are experiencing appears not to have
much to do with the announced network outage.

What we did today, combined with next Thursday's outage, will help the BW
problem--I hope. It will not stop server outages. It will not remove
single points of failure. But there's reason to hope that it will greatly
alleviate the bandwidth problem.
